[CWBRN-31830] Timeline Vertical zooming issue

Timeline zooming is a great feature
On line help states... http://www.cakewalk.com/D...p=Introduction.24.html

- Right-click and drag up/down to zoom tracks vertically. The current track is centred.

My problem is the current track is not centred. Instead focus goes to the very last track and if I zoom in as far as possible then I can only see the bottom half of last track

Everything else works fine
Drag up/down to zoom horizontally... Yep
Drag left/right to scroll horizontally... Yep
Double-click to show and fit selection... Yep
Any ideas why? ty

Works correctly for me here. Before right-click/drag in timeline did you click on the track header number so it turns blue and indicates the track is selected?

OK, try this...it seems it's the track with the focus that serves as the center (i.e., you've clicked on a space in the track header. but not on the number), not the track that's selected.

Afraid not Craig.
I'm clicking on "Track number" and “Track name”, (background turns pale blue on both).
But still last track is shown in the clip pane

Confirmed in X3, works fine in X2. Probably relates to the change in fractional scaling. I noticed that it "sorta" works up to a certain point, then if you drag further, it jumps to the last track.

So at this point we have a reproducible issue (by Craig)  but no problem report number. Still awaiting confirmation from Cakewalk about the process here. To bypass it altogether  please log the issue in the Cakewalk problem reporter page and post issue number here.

I can not reproduce this. Works as expected on two machines I have. Sonar X3e. One with Win8.1. The other with Win7.

So your saying when you Right-click and drag up/down to zoom tracks vertically. The current track is centred and not the last track zoomed? Strange indeed, wonder why it's not consistent one way or other?

I'm new to Sonar and this was bugging me, I was about to post a new thread regarding this issue. I've spent an hour searching and trying to figure this out, I guess we've confirmed it's an issue with Sonar, which I was hoping wasn't the case because now I'm stuck having to work around it while also getting acclimated to Sonar.

We're messing around with this on our end. I'm ALMOST positive I was able to reproduce this the first time I tried it, and was surprised. Now none of us over here are able to reproduce it. The one artifact of this we are able to reproduce consistently is when you create a new project and insert a large number of tracks, try any zoom method without touching the tracks as to preserve the "focused" track. The last track SONAR has "touched" at this point is the last track in the project, but this still doesn't seem like expected behavior since the track isn't actually focused.

Just looking for some more detail so we can mess around with this a bit more.

I can describe 2 problems which I observe with X3e and vertical zoom. I use "Click and drag" in the "Vertical zoom Control area". For possible reproducibility: 1280x1024, 11 tracks, "Auto track zoom" does not change the result:
  • the effective working zoom region depends on zooming speed, but it is never 100%. Let say I start "Zoom In" from full "Zoom out" state (all tracks take smallest possible vertical space). Already at 30% of the "zooming bar" (which pop up once I start zooming), selected track is taking the full height. If (without releasing the mouse) I start to "zoom out", it does that "slowly" and at the very last "pixel" on the bar the hight of all tracks "jumps" to the minimum. "Zooming out" from full "Zoom in" (one track takes the whole space) is near always "jumpy" from the beginning, it takes only very short movement (several pixel on zoom bar) to get to maxumum zoom out.
  • if docking window is not visible (track view is taking the whole height), selected track is somehow always visible during any zoom operations. If docking window is visible (track view takes half of the height), during zooming in/out selected track periodically disappear from the view. If selected track is Track2, I normally see Track6 - Track11 (the last) in this case. But sometimes it is Track4-Track11, and I even got completely black track window several times (no tracks visible, but I can not reproduce that reliably). Please note, that the problem does not appear in case Track1 is selected (with any other, inclusive the last one, it is reproducible). It looks like the height of the track view influence the "severity" of the bug, just a small change can make zooming either better or worse.
EDIT: taking the next comment into account,  where I mention "selected" track I mean "focused"/"current" one. Not really selected in terms of SONAR (yes, the terminology is confusing...).

So... At The Moment my X3e zoom is working as expected.

Just to be clear though...

Focusing a track turns the Name Screen pale light blue in X3, and the track control pane light gray in X2 and X1. This track stays centered during vertical zoom.
The "focused" track is the "current" track.

Selecting a track turns the box around the track number blue. This track does NOT stay centered during vertical zoom.
The "selected" track is not the "current" track.

After a month and a half of trial and error I figured it out. Would be nice if someone can confirm this.

Open a project, import at least 10 random audio files. Open the Track Manager and hide a few of those imported audio tracks. Now try vertical zooming with Alt+Mousewheel and Ctrl+Up/Down, there goes your vertical zoom issue. Now open the Track Manager and make those hidden tracks visible. Voilà! Vertical zoom issue is gone.

If anyone can confirm this that should solve the mystery.

STILL NOT FIXED IN SONAR 2015!

Just upgraded to Platinum yesterday, and just got everything set up. The issue is still present. I was told that this bug was fixed, that's why I upgraded so I could finally use Sonar. This is a big deal for me, and it's the reason I couldn't work with Sonar X3. This really needs to be resolved, this has become frustrating beyond explanation and I can't believe it's still a problem.

Here's a video of the issue still present: http://screencast.com/t/AP8vrMqzyMc0

Who can possibly work like that?

Do you have a source for this. Sorry there are plenty of bugs that have been around for a lot longer so some might get priority... We are still looking at fixes for drum maps for instance.

How to reproduce this is written a few posts up. I've uploaded a project with the issue, support was able to reproduce it in X3e with the instructions I provided, they tried to reproduce it in Sonar 2015 and said its been resolved. They told me it was resolved back in January, now here we are in March and I've upgraded to get the fix and it's not fixed. I've had Sonar since the beginning of December, and to this day haven't done work with it because I can't work with this issue.

jps
Here is what happens  when I`m using alt + mousewheel . Works as intended , I beleive .
alt+mousewheel

All the best
Jan

Now try the instructions I posted in January for reproducing the problem:

"Open a project, import at least 10 random audio files. Open the Track Manager and hide a few of those imported audio tracks. Now try vertical zooming with Alt+Mousewheel and Ctrl+Up/Down, there goes your vertical zoom issue. Now open the Track Manager and make those hidden tracks visible. Voilà! Vertical zoom issue is gone."

The issue is caused by use of the Track Manager.

Hi please check #23 again.

I'm not asking you for steps to reproduce.....
I asked you where is the source of the information, when you say the bug is fixed.

Thanks...

Hi Christopher,
Thanks again for your reply. That seems to do the trick - hiding tracks from the Track Manager allows the vertical zoom issue to present itself. After doing some testing in SONAR Platinum, it seems that the issue has been resolved. I've just closed out your CWBRN as "Fixed." If you decide to upgrade to SONAR 2015 (Artist, Professional, or Platinum) once it's available, you should no longer run into this issue.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and helping us come to a solution. Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Best regards,
Joe Connor

Go into Cakewalk command centre - are there any updates that need installing?
Once you are up to date (if you aren't already) I suggest starting a brand new project and check if you can repro.

Thanks..

p.s. When were you sent the message? Thanks.

Everything is up to date, I've already reproduced it in the latest build in a brand new project.
