Colored marker sections

Very doable! If you can peg out song sections with markers, you should be able to assign colors to those sections on the timeline a la Pro Tools.

Or perhaps in an additional ruler strip

Somebody posted a workaround awhile back using an empty midi track. Being able to change colors on the time ruler between markers would be awesome.

I've been suggesting this idea for years, i.e. an additional time ruler that can be divided up into sections, each of which can be assigned a label, colour and number-offset.
See this recent thread:
http://forum.cakewalk.com/m3097431.aspx

I'm also wondering if it would be possible to integrate it with the "Arrange Window" idea suggested recently in this forum, i.e. the ability to play back the project's sections in a different order by arranging "blocks".

I'm guessing that was me. I'm voting a 5 on this suggestion by the way.

The work-around that I use and I've posted before is that I have a one measure block of midi. Actually it's my click track of a straight drum beat using TTS-1. I repeat that block like 150 times and it's the first track in the song right at the top. When I get to adding markers or trying to visually indicate the verse or the chorus sections, I select the range of blocks and apply background clip color to them. It actually works very well.

But I agree if the program had it ready to fly in the marker functionality that would be slick. I also agree having it as a second line would probably be better visually and allow for more things - like typing in some text.

Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

Song Blocks View 2014/11/27 23:45:31 (permalink)

Reason is no Sonar, but Propellerheads really struck gold with their song blocks feature they introduced a few versions ago.  I would absolutely love to see this type of feature in Sonar!  The user can define song blocks (for example, verse, chorus, bridge, and so on), record the music for each block, and then assemble the blocks into a complete song structure.  Additionally, you can change or add to an individual instance of a block, so you could, for example, have the second verse of your song vary from the first verse.
This feature would be a huge benefit to songwriters and would overall add a new level of power and flexibility to the Sonar workflow.

I would like this "Arrange Window" idea to be integrated with "Timeline Blocks", as I mentioned in this earlier thread:

Add a new ruler type, "Regions" 2015/02/06 08:25:21 (permalink)

When added, this ruler would be able to have different sections selected for color change and labeling.  This could be used for example, to provide a song section heading to quickly see where you're at.

Being able to save "structures" for later recall would be icing.  Not something I would want to have extend the timeline for implementation, but nice to have if it's easy to do.
