[Resolved] MIDI Latency?
I have been experiencing significant delay between hitting a key on my MIDI controller and the note actually sounding when using soft synths. It feels like almost a full second. I suspect that it has something to do with my settings but I haven't been able to successfully adjust them. I have my MIDI playback buffering set to 512 ms, any less and I get dropped notes when I play a MIDI track. My audio latency is 6.3 ms (ASIO). When I have my MIDI controller routed to my external hardware synth, there is no delay. I don't experience the same issue with Live, using the same soft synths and the same patches there is no noticeable delay between hitting a note and hearing the sound. What do I need to tweak? Thanks! Edit: DOH! I had an instance of R-Mix on the reference channel. After I removed R-Mix and reopened the project, the delay went away.

Are you getting this Sonar latency with absolutely no plugins (other than soft synths) engaged ?

I have a concrete limiter on the master and one bus, other than that the project only has soft synths. Turning off the pro-channel for those busses has no effect. Oops, I had an R-Mix on the reference channel, when I removed it the delay went away. Thanks!

Most concrete limiters usually have a "look ahead" feature that causes more latency. I usually try to avoid using them in "tracking" phase of a project, then crank the audio buffer size higher (eg. 1024 samples) in "mixdown" phase to enable their use. If you bypass these concrete limiters, do you still have the soft synth latency ?

They should have a blinky light with a number next to it to tell you when latency compensation is applied and what the value is.

R-Mix, that'll do it. . . . unfortunately, no blinking lights . . . makes me wonder if there will ever be audio driver technology that will make recording and mixing and mastering work with one single audio interface buffer setting. Hopefully somebody's working on that ?
