To whom it may concern:

1: The official interpretation of "Grace" is... 'Undeserved' kindness. Without this, NONE OF US would be sane, believe me!

2: Love shall cover a multitude of sins... Love is 'kind', love suffers long, thinks no evil, is not provoked! TRUE LOVE NEVER FAILS!

3: Forbearance... lenience; not dealing with someone according to the measure of their sins, knowing that we too need forbearance from others.

4: Mercy... compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone who stands no chance otherwise. For he shall have judgement without mercy, who has showed no mercy.

If you don't have one or any of the above within you, then i exhort you, please try! A withering flower or a scorched blade of grass just need a little bit of water and a little bit of sunshine.
Some of our fellow human beings are in grave need of genuine help and compassion and some measure of tolerance, and they may be isolated and have nowhere to turn. Please consult your conscience, i beg of you.

What is your point?
A jerk really isn't a jerk?

Someone who lies and misleads intentionally to cause others stress or harm needs compassion?

Re-registering multiple times so you can expand on your hate and misinformation  full of harmful intentions is OK in your book?

I for one am impressed with the OP. He/she may only have made one post in 28 years but there's more inaccuracies in it than most people could manage posting a hundred times a day for 28 years. That takes some doing.

This would be fine and dandy if we were talking about sins. This guy did not come on here confessing his lust for his for his neighbor's wife or skimping on tithing. He came to publicly be a jerk and make insulting accusations. Quite possibly ( and very likely based on a set of known factors) is just trolling. If he wants grace, he can go to jesusdiedsoicantroll.com.

Yes, one post in all of this time. And when I see how rude people can be, I am glad of it.
$149 to upgrade for one year and $20 a month each and every month after that is not cheap.  it cost me $149 to upgrade to X3 14 months ago. So, if the current plan had been in place then it would have cost me $280 since then to stay current. That is a significant price increase. I object to paying the monthly fee. And I object to no support unless I pay the monthly fee. I don't agree with that way of doing business.

I've been using Cakewalk since 1989 myself- the license was purchased by the recording studio at the time and I used Cakewalk for windows until about 1998 when that  very expensive laptop went down...  I jumped back on with Sonar 7.  ...anyway...

I think I'm gonna like the new subscription program.  As long as it stays reasonably priced.  I spent the mid 90's through 2003 working for a software company.  I know what those guys go through.  So I'm ok with funding them a bit more often so they can throw some cash into faster development.  ...just my two cents!  oh, and I make a living with Sonar!

I have been using Cakewalk products since the 1980s, starting with the Cakewalk 1.0 sequencer.
Currently I use Sonar X3.
I am totally opposed to the new subscription program for Sonar Platinum.  It is a blatant cash grab.
My philosophy is that I do not do business with people who want to rip me off. No ifs, ands or buts.
This will be the end of my 28 year relationship with Cakewalk.

Welcome to 2015.  Everybody's doing subscriptions - Adobe, Avon (Avid), Apple, Sony - I'll bet you even have a cell phone with a monthly plan.  The CakeFolks are worlds beyond all of the forementioned folks in that with the Cake plan you can keep your products after 12 months or your first annual subscription.  Bounce over to Adobe's site and you'll see they ended that this month forever.  Sonar is the best deal, best company, best forum and best pricing model in the industry.  I too had Cake 1.0 for DOS.  I probably still have the 5 1/4" floppy somewhere - with the subscription plan they are offering today I could still have that software as well thirty years from now.

I'll bet you that Starbucks goes subscription in less than 3 years as well

This makes it sound like you pay an upgrade for $149 and pay $20/ month which is untrue. It's one or the other. Just forget about the monthly and pay like you always have. NO CHANGE. As for Cakewalk support I've never known of a case where someone with a legit copy of Sonar hasn't got tech support, no matter the version.

However, tech support is only really owed those on the current version. Cakewalk goes out of their way to support people. Even with the change in organising of the forum, Cakewalk acknowledges that by putting all the Sonar forums together so that those with earlier than current versions can get help here too.

Sorry but there is no subscription. CW is calling the system that will provide patches and added content a membership. They are also as an option offering credit if the user can't pay the lump sum price. They are also entitled to the membership as long as they keep paying the monthly payment. When paid in full its theirs forever. Just as if they had paid the full price up front.

Hey everybody leave the trolls alone,i love trolls, they keep reminding me of the awesome software cakewalk keeps coming out with,if Sonar was as bad as some of the trolls would have you believe, there would be nothing much said about it,it's so good IMO,that I might wont to become a troll myself.
my first line as a troll:Sonar is so good it doesn't crash enough for me,the plugins are too good, cakewalk gives you all these good synths and instuments to work with,i ask for support and they quickly answered, I created a song without sonar crashing even once,i'm sick of cakewalk i'm moving to Sonar Platinum.

This makes it sound like you pay an upgrade for $149 and pay $20/ month which is untrue. It's one or the other...

But the OP is right in that after this year, the price of upgrades is going up from what it has been.

Some examples of upgrade prices for Producer editions, based on a little internet research:

Sonar 8 to 8.5 (2009) $99 (this may be only a ".5" upgrade, but I think it was about a year after 8 had come out...)
Sonar 8.5 to X1 (2010) $99
Sonar X1 to X2 (2012) $119
Sonar X2 to X3 (2013) $149
Sonar X3 to Platinum (2015) $149 (or $180 if you go monthly)
Sonar Platinum membership renewal (2016 and on) $199 (or $240 if you go monthly)

I'm not trying to troll, but I can't say I'm thrilled with the higher upgrade costs.

That works out to a doubling of the price in 5 years. Not that I'm happy about paying more but could it be that as Sonar is often cited as being much better value, cheaper than the competition, that it is now starting to fall in line with the market.

THAT is an excellent point/question!

After some digging, here's what I see:

  • Upgrade to Cubase Pro 8 from 7.5 $99 (full is $549)
  • Upgrade to Ableton Live 9 Standard from any version $159 (full is $499)
  • Upgrade to Digital Performer 8 from any version $195 (full is $499)
  • Logic Pro X is $199 for the full version with no upgrade path from previous versions
  • Upgrade to Pro Tools 11 from 10 $199 (full is $699 plus your soul)
  • Presonus Studio One 1 to Studio One 2 $150 (full is $400)
  • Image Line FL Studio 11 Signature is $299 with free upgrades for life

I guess even if I'm not happy about it $200 for an upgrade is NOT at all unprecedented for a major DAW.

It is okay to point out that the option to buy outright as prior is still there, but you went way over and went on the ad hominem path, which makes this forum look bad.

Over the years I've steered clear of this forum due to the clique-based derogation and smarty nature of a significant portion of the posters here (I say significant, not majority -- significant enough to find it without looking too far).

I'm not going to tell anyone what to do here, because electronic fora have become boys clubs all over the net, and it's futile to think that remote "knowing" people is anywhere near possible.  I would say, though, that it wouldn't be a bad guess to speculate that lots of sober, smart Sonar users stay away from this place due to the things I'm talking about.

It's sickening weakness of character.  The business at hand here is tech talk.  Anything else is immaturity, insecurity and weakness in the individual, from the way I see it.

2: Love shall cover a multitude of sins... Love is 'kind', love suffers long, thinks no evil, is not provoked! TRUE LOVE NEVER FAILS!

Some of our fellow human beings are in grave need of genuine help and compassion and some measure of tolerance, and they may be isolated and have nowhere to turn. Please consult your conscience, i beg of you.

Please refer to Wikipedia for an explanation of "The Butterfly Effect".

Best regards.

What is your point?
A jerk really isn't a jerk?

Someone who lies and misleads intentionally to cause others stress or harm needs compassion?

Re-registering multiple times so you can expand on your hate and misinformation  full of harmful intentions is OK in your book?

I could go on but I am tired

He who turns the other cheek merely has bruises on both sides of his/her face

Stratman, why are you carrying on with this in a tech forum?  What do you have to prove?  Isn't there a Coffee Shop or whatever for folks who want to not talk technical?

After about 5 minutes I got cold and scared of the dark so turned them both back on....
