Did they add Now Time smooth scrolling for playback in the new Sonar?

I'm guessing they haven't or it would have been mentioned but maybe they did and no one noticed yet. This is one thing that has driven me nuts about Sonar since I bought in. I would REALLY like smooth scrolling during playback (and lots of options to control how it behaves) because my old DAW had it and I guess I got spoiled. Such a simple thing but man do I ever miss it. I was told a while back it was not an option to save on system resources but I think our modern computers should be able to handle it. My old P3 XP system with 3gb of ram seem to handle it fine.

Also on a somewhat related note... is there a way to stop Sonar from defaulting to incremental scroll every time I boot up? I can't stand incremental scroll and because it's controlled by the ScrollLock key every time I boot up I have to remember to hit that key to disable it (which I always forget to do). Not a huge deal but inevitably I'll be zoomed way in trying to look at or edit something really intently, hit playback then completely lose where I'm at which results in a little brain smoldering.

Neither of those things are going to kill me though.

I don't know what "smooth scrolling" is.  Nor do I know what "incremental scrolling" is either? Could you explain it more?

He means continuous scrolling of the track view, rather than a static view that pages where the now time reaches the right hand side of the window.

Hi, John. I think I explained it better here...

If you have anymore questions lemme know. It really is a valuable feature.

I believe what you want is have the project scroll with reference to a fixed now time marker. Kind of like a play head on a tape deck.

You got it. Honestly I kind of figured this was normal behavior for audio programs but I guess not. Doesn't seem like something that would be terrible hard to implement.

Another tiny thing that effects me a lot is the lack of scrollbars on things. I know they take up screen real estate but I'd like the option to enable them on certain things... especially the inspector. The scroll wheel on my track ball is wacky and I absolutely loathe mice. With the inspector the only way I can scroll it is using the Page keys which would be alright but I have to click somewhere in the Inspector so it's in focus for it to work. Simple enough right? The problem is I can't just click on any old module. It HAS to be either in the EQ (which is tricky because it's jammed with stuff and if you Page up/down with a parameter selected it changes the setting) or a few of the older PC modules. Clicking on any of the new modules or the add on modules like the Tape Sim or Concrete Limiter will not work so I get stuck looking at those modules and I have to collapse them to get one of the ones I can hook into to scroll.

I know that seems silly but it gets very frustrating while mixing.

I can give you a couple of autohotkey scripts which can be bound to just about anything on the keyboard and/or mouse to provide mouse wheel functions but that is all I got for wacky track ball replacement.

I think I call it Stationary Now Time with Background scrolling. It doesn't roll off the tongue nicely.

For scroll lock being enabled on boot, I found this:

    1. Type regedit in RUN dialog box and press Enter. It'll open Registry Editor.
    2. Now go to following key:
To change the behavior for currently logged in user:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Keyboard
To change the behavior for all users:
    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Keyboard
    3. Now in right-side pane, change value of "InitialKeyboardIndicators" string value to any of following:
0 - Turn all indicators Off (NumLock, CapsLock, ScrollLock)
    1 - Turn CapsLock On
    2 - Turn NumLock On
3 - Turn CapsLock and NumLock On
    4 - Turn ScrollLock On
5 - Turn CapsLock and ScrollLock On
6 - Turn NumLock and ScrollLock On
7 - Turn all indicators On (NumLock, CapsLock, ScrollLock)

hmm... not sure if that would work because it might not solve the problem where certain modules won't allow me to hook into them for scrolling. However when I attach a mouse scrolling ALWAYS works so maybe it would circumvent whatever weirdness is going on preventing the pg up/down.

I think I just remembered figuring out another workaround in the fall about this so lemme see if I can remember tomorrow when I'm in front of the DAW. If not I'll hit ya up. Thanks. man.

I call it "Smooth Scrolling" because I'm pretty sure that's what the option was named in my old DAW. It's been a loooong time since I fired that bugger up though. I really should so I can yank a bunch of my old files off of there.

Uh oh... that sounds tech-y and scary. lol

Thanks though. I might give it a try. It's really not a HUGE deal because I just have to toggle the ScrollLock key but I never fail to forget about it until it ticks me off. I just find it weird that that one option in Sonar is bound to one of the few keys that has an on/off state and it just happens to default to the option that annoys me.

Can't you set/clr Scroll,Numlock key in most bios setups?
I have 3 desktops and they all have this ability in the bios.
I just checked one of my laptops and it is there too.
