No Sound On Playback!!!!
hi guys i have had this ongoing problem.....been on to Roland & they assure me my Quad Capture is all set up fine....i can see playback on screen but no sound out my monitors....had these sorts of problems for the last month....im only new to Sonar Platinum & have only recently started with computer recording...so please talk in laymans terms.....if problem persist i can see me throwing the bloody lot out of the window!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First, sorry for your frustration. I've been there.
Now, to run this down without coming over to your house, I'll need some help from you...
You say you can 'see playback on screen'. Does this mean that levels bounce in the 'MAINS' Bus? Where is the MAINS Bus routed?
Does the Quad Capture have an application that you can open where you can see signal moving for the inputs and outputs on the quad capture? Do the headphones work on the quad capture?

i have levels in the mains bus...mains bus is routed to my quadcapture.....have no volume in headphones either.....would be nice if you could pop over lol

Most of the times when someone say's they can't hear playback it's because the master buss is not routed to the interface properly. Example it's set to the SPDIF or the 3/4 when your monitors are connected to the 1/2 outputs.
And as said above if the interface comes with a GUI mixer check that first.

When you open the quad capture program, can you see the levels bouncing or no?

Do you have mute enabled? Here's a picture showing routing...  From the Console view you can drag in the buses and the outputs so you see what is routed where. You want to make sure you aren't SOLOing or Muting the tracks you are trying to hear. There are Solo and mute buttons on each track.

I would say you haven't set your track outputs correctly, but from what you say above then this would not be the case. Normally tracks will default to going directly to the 1/2 output which results in sound. If the meters are moving in your mains output bus 1/2 like you have said and your monitors are correctly attached to outputs 1/2 then there is sound. The meters will not move if you muted the buss. If meters are moving there is a signal. But this has to be the correct output as I said. I'm not sure how many outputs you have but double check your correlating the meters with the same outputs the speakers are using.
We can only hope that you have correctly set your interface and monitors up correctly now as you have said the tech walked you through this. And that if there is a software mixer he helped you set that correctly too.
If you insert a "Master" buss as shown in gswitz screen shot, then you send all your track outputs to that first. Then the Master buss is output to Main 1/2.

Wow, Man, Roland needs to do something about their web site, I found it next to impossible to navigate with all the fly in animation and crap. This is new to me as I've been to their site lots in the past and it was normal to use. The search function is broken etc. what a mess. I'm glad Sonar is not part of that anymore.. I found more info on the Sweetwater page for it. I was trying to see if there was a software mixer etc. and I don't think it has one. But I did see that the unit is Analog 2 in and 2 out with 3/4 being SPDIF. ( coaxial) So unless your monitors have SPDIF input there's only one way to hook it up. I would think by now after the Roland guy set the connection properly that it is working, yes?

Hi guys giving an update .....guy from Roland seems to have sorted out most of my issues...it seems i have a couple of rogue tracks!!!!!!!!.....would like to thank all you guys for your help u prob think im a pain in the arse...bit new to all this so its sometimes hard to understand how it all works!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try this, make sure your outs/busses are set right first, then go into Sonar preferences, and unselect the ASIO or Driver you are using, hit apply, reselect the driver, hit apply...and see what happens....
Make sure in OS windows control, audio, that the Roland sound device is not being used as Windows audio default for audio playback...and the try above again...if that helps, if so doing?...helps me when that happens...I think it is a windows bug...as they are playing around with making audio a higher priority to get working better all around the table...win 10 release, so they test the other one first..R&D minions go mad...and money is made off the chaos...Seems so mindless of them to do...but that is progress I guess.....wink?
They may have made some bad choices, and released a bug ...and drivers are getting screwed up...with ins and outs or something like that....at least noticed here....but removing some of the bad updates, and resetting up again...has for now helped me solve for most of the losing audio, and or dropped device messages so far...When it does occur, that above sorts it out for me, at the moment....And less mead is needed to be consumed now....which could be a bad thing?...best wishes!

Often clears out some crap...
Yup and change windows default driver as Sir Les says... You could even disable it in Windows (Control Panel/Sounds).
Def a Roland problem regardless..

No this is a win bug for many.((i believe Alec))..not just roland issues...I have had the lost audio/no sound thing since Jan first's week..I am not using roland audio...Another person on this forum, also had issues, and from there, the hunt for the problem came to be windows possible updates causing it with others also chimming in...I found a link to others having same issues after downloading updates for MS OSes. A few things since I have experienced this (with a Roland VS-700R interface):
• Do you have a number of virtual instruments in your project? This can make audio die. If deleting or freezing one solves the problem, that was the issue. (You may have to do the next step as well.) I have a ton of memory, but sometimes 7 VIs kills my audio. Sometimes 13 is OK.
• Have you tried starting and stopping the audio engine? It's the icon on the Control bar next to the MIDI plug symbol. The audio engine thing looks like a sine wave.
• Do you have more than one project open? That can make audio go nuts.
• If the MIDI buffer is too small, a MIDI track will appear to play but won't make any sound. (Preferences | MIDI | Playback and Recording | Playback.) Mine is set to 1200.
• Do you have EZ Drummer 2? Version 1 was OK. Version 2 destroyed my audio.

I haven't examined all the posts concerning your problem but try illuminating the [FX] ( Bypass all Audio Effects) button up in the Control Bar. It's up there with the Solo, Mute, Record etc that do make global changes to the track content. By so doing, I found, for example, that my CA-2A leveling amplifier was turned off because it had (supposedly) not been registered within the allowed period of time.
