Folder structure with Data Drives.

Hello,

What is the preferred folder structure for Sonar Platinum and with Sonar X3 still installed in File>Folder Locations in Preferences. How about in File>Audio data the Global Audio Folder and Picture Folder. Most concerned how my Project folder will look like.

I want to keep project folder in the Projects and Misc. Drive and Samples and Content in the Samples Drive. The Program file are in the C drive.

Sonar Platinum, S1 3, FL Studio 12, Cubase 7.5, Komplete 8, Waves Gold, Melodyne Studio 4, Windows 10 - 64bit, GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R Rev 2, Intel Xeon W3690, 12GB RAM, 23" 10-touch ViewSonic and iPad Air as midi controller, iConnectMIDI2+, FireBox, Shuttle Pro2

You don't have to change anything. Keep as it is. I hope though you are using per project folders.

Well the default drive for Cakewalk Projects is the C: drive, which would then be on the same drive as your programs and application data.

I prefer to put Cakewalk Projects on an additional hard drive.  You control where Sonar looks for projects through the location in Preferences>File>Folder Locations.

So, if you use the defaults, other than relocating Cakewalk Projects to a new drive, if desired, Global Audio will be wherever you told the install process to put Cakewalk Content, as a sub-folder, and each project will have a sub-folder created within its project - that will contain all the audio clips for that project.

    Hope that helps,

As Bob said use Per-Project audio folders. I have taken to using mklink to redirect folders rather than doing it inside the application but either is fine as long as everything is on an internal drive. Also assuming there are three separate physical drives and not simply partitions on one or two drives.

Preference > File > Folder Locations "Project Files" and Preference > File > Audio Data "Global Audio Folder" should point to a folder on Projects and Misc.

Most content relocation cannot be done through the SONAR UI either edit the registry or learn mklink. Aside from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR\Platinum\ContentLocations for moving "Cakewalk Content", the sample based synths registry keys were documented by a forum user here http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2673527
