Absolutely no need to feel embarrassed. Snap is a rather complex tool. I understand how it works and how to set it these days (but only because I am CONSTANTLY studying Sonar) but figuring out what settings need to be used for which tasks is confusing. It's the curse of having such versatility and power. I always describe working with Sonar X series to be like flying a helicopter. A buttload of stuff to remember but darn is it ever cool once you know what does what.

Anyway... that would be a Track Template I believe and I rarely use them (even though I should). I would a) see if there is a Save button on the folder and then when the Save dialog pops up see if the folder can be saved as a template. Otherwise maybe try doing that on the MIDI track. I know it is possible but I haven't tried as of yet.

I will however be at the DAW a little later (probably) so I'll check it out and post what I find. In the meantime take a look in the manual under the Track Template entries and see what's there. Also there is a video in the CakeTV section that shows how to set up Session Drummer with multi out audio and IIRC at the end he saves it as a track template.

Most of those vids are still relevant... oh and I jsut remembered I think he used 8.5 to create that vid (it was Seth) so pay attention to the bottom of the screen because there are instructions on how to do certain tasks in the X series that pop up when there is a different procedure.

In fact take some time and watch some (or all) the videos in the CakeTV section and you'll learn a lot about how to get around.

Sorry that wasn't as direct an answer as before.

Update: I just checked...

Select the MIDI track (the track that contains the MIDI notes)

Right click to access the context menu (depending where you click you may get different menus... you want the long menu)

Select Save As Track Template

Give it a name and save to the default location (or wherever you want).

Now to reinsert it just right click in an empty area of the Track Pane and select Insert From Track Template.

The MIDI track and all the associated audio outputs will populate the Track pane.

Cheers.

Thank you Beepster. I watched a lot of videos, but I guess when there is no goal to achieve, learning is not active. Once I have a task to complete, and I feel learning becomes active. Nevertheless, I'l keep watching.

I know what you mean. I was a black hole for the first couple years just sucking in all the free/cheap knowledge I could get my hands on hoping to just get a grasp on things (I was a total n00b... now I guess I'm a novice). Trying to put it into practice was difficult because there was sooooo much to remember.

However what I do now, and this is why I mentioned those Karl Rose SWA vids, is if I intend to do something specific and I'm a little fuzzy I'll pop open those vids and watch the relevant section for a quick refresher. Then if I need more detailed info I'll do a google search of the online manual and the forums using keywords. Takes about 20-30 mins in the morning then I can just slam out what I'm trying to do rather easily.

Of course there is also the Garrigus Power books which are great for referencing. His Digifreq site has a lot of cool stuff too. Also a google of "SOS Anderton Sonar" and the topic you are researching will bring up a ton of useful stuff.

If all else fails posting a question here will usually get ya sorted.

Cheers.

Edit: I wrote a user review of those Karl Rose vids here...

and just bumped it because it got shuffled off the frontpage very quickly during the new Sonar release.

That sounds like the way to go. Little refreshers before big tasks.
Thanks again Beepster.

So glad to have found this thread. I am a long, long time Cakewalk user, beginning with Cakewalk 4.0 for DOS and then migrating through the years to Sonar 6 Producer, which I've been using about 8 years. I finally bit the bullet and have subscribed to Sonar Platinum. While I recognize that the Skylight UI is generally more intuitive, 75% or more of what I know/knew about Sonar (shortcuts, context menus, etc.) now seems useless. I made the mistake of jumping into the new UI with a project having a deadline. It was a very deflating experience. If it wasn't for years' worth of Sonar projects, I'd consider another DAW altogether, since I'd be facing the same learning curve.

At least, now, I know that I am not alone. Perhaps we can start a support group.  Thanks to all above for the resources mentioned here. I'll look into them and hope that I can report being productive, once again, a few months from now.

A steep learning curve is never something to look forward to but at this critical time I'm glad it's you and not me.

I couldn't imagine doing a big project with a new version even though i update every version. I can't imagine taking that on when your program of choice has had 7 major releases from my current version.

Why not stay with Sonar 6 so the learning curve doesn't get in the way. Clearly you've done projects with it in the last 7 or 8 years. Just a suggestion. The only caveats of course is that maybe there are features in the new Sonar essential to your new project. All the best.
