Re: Using the Roland Integra-7 with Sonar Platinum 2016/01/16 11:40:46 (permalink)
The disappearance of my edits to the Studio Set was the result of my blowing up a circuit breaker by plugging in a heat into an electrical socket while the Integra was on and plugged into the same circuit. I fixed that.

However, it occurred to me that rather than create a dedicated Midi track in which to enter these two events:

Control event, Controller number 0, Value 85
Control event, Controller number 32, Value 0

I could simply create a Sysex file that automatically loaded into a sequence that did the same thing. However, I have forgotten how to create such a Sysex file for the Roland Integra. Can anyone help?

Re: Using the Roland Integra-7 with Sonar Platinum 2016/01/27 18:11:42 (permalink)
OK, so I wrote into the Integra's memory to start with Studio Set 6 as the default sound set, and that's what actually happens when I turn it on.  So, I am attempting to use the Integra with SONAR in Clunk mode where whatever instruments are assigned to a Midi channel is what I use in SONAR. If Studio Set 6 has Perky Spin as Part 4 Channel 4, I can use Perky Spin in SONAR. Crude, but at least I get some sound of the unit.

The problem is that simply loading SONAR causes Part 1 in Studio Set 1 to go blank, ie no instrument, no sound.

Men, men, I read all of the comment and nothing with the solution. I did one of instrument patch for Rs-9. I couldn't remember what I did, but it took me to write every single sound for a month! suck! I love the tone of Integra-7 but it's head ache! the problem I have now is the assigning Chanel is not function.

Yep. the Integra-7 remains a mystery to me. My SONAR sequences trigger different sounds every time I load them, as the Integra-7 does not seem to remember patch assignments on a consistent basis.

Still working on this problem.

Yep. I will have to dig what should I do now. It seems to work like a normal or general sound generation but it does not really pick every sound instrument in the Integra. When I assign the instrument from the preference and assign for each tract, work just find but the integra keeps disappearing. I have to close the Sonar and turn off and on the Integra then it shows up but the Midi channel shown default. However I could not find the instrument list. I have the Roland SC-88 which is very easy use and every Music software can pick up but not the integra. The SC-88 does sound ok but it does not sound like real music instrument. Hopefully we will find solution.

Re: Using the Roland Integra-7 with Sonar Platinum 2016/02/29 17:11:27 (permalink)
I can't understand why you can't use the MSB/LSB thing. This is standard fare for any midi capable external sound module. You can create your own INS file if you want.

I don't own or use an Integra but it seems to me it follows the midi spec pretty well in this regard.

You could also indeed record a sysex file but as long as you use only presets, Sonar will remember them if you set them to the correct PC MSB/LSB for each track. Sonar resetting your module on boot is a preference that you can change.

Thanks Snehankur, I have already download the I-7 int-definition. However the "C" =midi Channel set is default. the "B" of bank of is none. The "P" of the Patch allow me to select the instrument sound and it play just fine, but not all the I-7 sounds.

However, I try the I-7 editor It work just fine. I can choose for the all sounds but it need to take time to assign the tracks and instruments. Some how it work but it doesn't seem to be normal for a Midi module (I-7) and Music software (Sonar Platinum).

Thanks for everyone. I just found that I have too many module that the Sonar get confused. The Sonar Platinum can't handle multiple module. However, the Integra-7 is the most I need. What I do, I have to disable every module except the integra. It works!

Now time to kiss my baby Integra-7.

However, i still don't like the Integra-7 only have 4 slot A,B,C,D. I need all the sound to pick from the Sonar without loading. Hopefully the new Integra may have to create this potential. The Integra-7 editor command doesn't work well or I still don't know how to use it.

This is a (typically Roland) stupid limitation on the Integra itself.

Re: Using the Roland Integra-7 with Sonar Platinum 2016/03/14 19:31:43 (permalink)
A baby step:

By setting up Studio Set  6 as the default set and writing that into Integra-7 memory, I can now use one of the drum sound banks. Over on the ProChannel box, I have my snare drum channel to 10.  The bank is set to: 11328 - Integra-7 Preset SN Drum Kit and the patch is set to:  2:Studio Kit.  This setting holds even if I turn off everything and turn it back on (assuming I saved it in SONAR); in other words, I have a workable setting for drums in SONAR for the Integra-7 that I can tweak, just like a real Midi module.

Re: Using the Roland Integra-7 with Sonar Platinum 2016/03/15 15:22:39 (permalink)
Another baby step.

I have the Instrument Definition File for the Integra-7, but now I have figured out one way to get it to work for me:

Making sure that the default Studio Set in the Integra-7 startup file is Rock Band 6 (I just arbitrarily picked that one), then when I assign channels, I made sure that the Bank chosen is 11456 - Preset SN Acoustic Tone 1- 128 (or 129 -256, either works). Then I can pick an instrument within those 2 banks, and get a Supernatural Instrument.  I think I have a Supernatural bank loaded in Integra memory at startup, which then allows Studio Set 6 to work.

anyway, now I have some functionality and it works every time, so it's good to go for now.

Well, it's been a few months, and the Integra-7 is now fully functional. Sonar pulls up the various banks available, and I can assign patches to Sonar tracks, just like a Sound Canvas module.

Re: Using the Roland Integra-7 with Sonar Platinum 2017/01/26 09:22:41 (permalink)
I noticed a little strange behavior, somehow, between sessions with Sonar, some channels assigned to the Integra-7 using its pre-sets instead trigger sounds from the GM2 bank. The problem is that there are 256 pre-set sounds per bank, whereas GM2 only has 128. That means that if my channel is set to Pre-set 66, it plays GM2 sound 66, which is totally different.

No idea why my pre-sets are migrating in this manner. Perhaps it has something to do with turning off the Integra-7 before my laptop is shutdown, leaving SONAR to fend for itself in assigning parts for that moment, and so it defaults to GM sounds. Maybe.

Re: Using the Roland Integra-7 with Sonar Platinum 2017/01/26 14:55:18 (permalink)
Hi.  I see we're back to it.

I have an Integra-7 and use it only for SONAR and Band-in-a-Box.  The SONAR patches are still a mystery, but often after I have set patches the 'normal' way in BIAB, using MSB/LSB, those sounds hold when I drag the MIDI tracks into SONAR.  Why this works, I don't know.  The only way I can explain it is that, not only does SONAR have difficulty sending patches to the Integra-7, it might not be sending anything in some cases (thus it does not override what BIAB already sent).

I wish I could help.

Software: Cakewalk by Bandlab; Adobe Audition; Band-in-A-Box audiophile; Izotope Ozone; Encore; Melodyne; Win 10 Pro, 64-bit.

Hardware: Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 2nd; Roland Integra-7; TCE Finalizer; Presonus Central Station, Behringer X-Touch.  Home built i7 with 16 GB RAM, SSDs.

Re: Using the Roland Integra-7 with Sonar Platinum 2017/01/26 15:07:46 (permalink)
Well, I have conquered the Integra-7 in the sense that I can control patch changes within SONAR. The key is to make sure that the Integra-7 is set up to load a specific bank when it is turned on. In my case, I load Rock Band 6. Then, I can use the .INS file for the Integra-7, and choose from one of many banks in the file that "align" with Rock Band 6, and everything is hunky dory.

To fix today's problem, I simply reloaded Rock Band 6 as the default instrument bank, and things are back to normal. I think that the module somehow load GM2 as the default bank somehow in the last few days.

I did a little testing today and although I could set whatever upper bank patch I needed, I can't get them to persist.  Very annoying.

Re: Using the Roland Integra-7 with Sonar Platinum 2017/04/07 19:13:28 (permalink) ☄ Helpfulby Shambler 2017/04/07 19:32:03
I realize that this is a dormant thread, but as I am trying to incorporate my Integra-7 with my Sonar Platinum, I'd like to add my $0.02 and point out an issue that I am experience.

As far as AUDIO, the Integra-7 works flawlessly with Sonar Platinum with one caveat - since the Integra becomes the AUDIO DEVICE, my headphones have to be plugged into the Integra. (In order to return the audio to my desktop monitors, I switch back to my Tascam audio interface.)

The Roland INTEGRA-7 Editor (Ver.2) works well in my setup (providing I set the DEVICE to "Integra CTRL") and I can call up all of the sounds (SuperNatural, PCM-S, PCM-D and the Expansion Packs). I can assign the any of the sounds to my 16 PARTS (which would correspond to my Sonar Tracks) and I can play the sounds with my keyboard controller.

Here is where I hit a wall - as soon as I start playback in Sonar, the screen on the Integra displays "INIT Studio" and all of the PART/INSTRUMENT assignments have been cleared! (I saw nothing in the EVENTS window that would cause this and no SysEx data is being sent.) I sit here today (040717) trying to figure this out on my own, but may have to put in a Ticket with Roland Support (who have been very quick to respond and quite helpful on everything I've asked so far).

The Integra-7 is a fantastic device (I use it every Sunday in the church orchestra) with amazing flexibilities (I send my Keyboard Controlled Sounds to the sound board on OUTPUT PAIR "A" and the EWI-5000 Controlled Sounds - wind sounds from patchmanmusic.com - on OUTPUT PAIR "B"). I load my Integra sounds with an iPad running "forScore".

Anyway, I was giving my brain a rest and decided to add these comments to the thread. I thought I had a good Roland Users Group, but can't find my saved link.

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

I got a Integra 7 for 1/3 off at a closing down sale. This is not sounding promising.

I also notice the volume knob and the four panels around the wheel are sticky.
There is a type of soft grip plastic that breaks down over time in this way.
I hope Roland haven't used that in the Integra 7.

rivers,

Thanks - I found the link just after I hit "post" here!
Getting the Integra integrated smoothly with Sonar is not a pressing matter (I certainly have enough VSTs to get the job done), but I have a project coming up where I think the sound architecture of the Integra would fit much better than my VSTs. When I use it in our "live" environment at church, most musicians there can not hear the difference between the acoustic instrument and the Integra reproduction. I would like to use it to create the audio for some of the missing parts on a score for an upcoming recording project.

Twelvetone, I have two Integra-7 units, each three years old now.  There is no 'stickyness' in either the volume controls or the four panels around the wheel.

Software: Cakewalk by Bandlab; Adobe Audition; Band-in-A-Box audiophile; Izotope Ozone; Encore; Melodyne; Win 10 Pro, 64-bit.

Hardware: Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 2nd; Roland Integra-7; TCE Finalizer; Presonus Central Station, Behringer X-Touch.  Home built i7 with 16 GB RAM, SSDs.

Re: Using the Roland Integra-7 with Sonar Platinum 2017/04/09 21:34:19 (permalink)
Thank you. I wiped them with a soapy moist cloth, no more sticky. I think it was a display model.

When I create a project, add the Integra 7 editor, close the editor, close the project, Sonar crashes with "Sonarplt.exe has stopped working"

I have the latest drivers, editor and firmware.
It happens whether I use the Integra as an audio interface or only MIDI (Vender set or not).

I have Win7 64

Happens with SPlat 2017/3 and also Jamaica Sand (old Splat I also have installed)

What could it be?
