Upgrade to Platinum
To those who have upgraded recently to the new Sonar purchase model, can you please tell me the sizes of the files that I would need to download if I upgrade from X3e Producer to Platinum ? I would go for an annual upgrade if I do, not the monthly, in case that makes any difference. Is there a new core program file to download or only small update files to X3e Producer that will upgrade it to Platinum ? If there is a new core program file for Platinum, what is the size ? And what are the sizes of the remaining additional files ? Is there a media box (DVDs) available ? Any relevant information for above queries will be helpful and appreciated.

The payment plan does not affect the download size. If X3 Producer is left on the machine, the packages needed to upgrade to Platinum (Cambridge) are - SONAR Platinum (313MB)
- SONAR Help and Tutorials (if you want the local help or Reference Guide pdf) (1.4GB)
- Anderton Collection (89MB)
- Boz Digital Labs ProChannel Collection (2MB)
There is no physical media available.

Thanks for the info scook. Just a few further clarifications if I may : 1. Looks like the help and tutorials is the biggest of the lot. Is the help file separate from the tutorials with a smaller size if I may want to only download the help files in the beginning and leave the tutorials for later ? 2. If I upgrade now from X3e Producer to Platinum, can I presume that all the fixes, updates and features that have been done till now will be available to me ? That is, everything contained in right from the initial Jan 2015 main updates + the Braintree + the Cambridge releases. Basically, everything that is shown from top to bottom on the page at this link : http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/Whats-New 3. I am still trying to get my head around how this new model works for purchasers upgrading at different points in time, that is, different months. Meaning, could I presume that if answer to point no. 2 is a YES, will that also apply even if I upgrade anytime later, that is, say after two or three or six months, that I would have all the updates from the beginning upto that point ? Of course, again, my payment plan option to upgrade at any point in time would be the annual option and not the monthly.

1. No, there is only one Help and Tutorial installer at the moment. You may manually delete the tutorial files after installation. 2. Yes, the installers are all cumulative. Read the http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/Whats-New carefully. Upgrading today, you will not receive the HardGroove libraries, they were Braintree exclusives. Release exclusives are only offered in the month they are released. 3. Yes, you get the most current version of SONAR and content from that point forward. As explained in #2, Cakewalk may release content which is exclusive to a particular release. When they release exclusive content, it appears as a separate installer and is only added to accounts of members during the month the content was available.

Thanks a ton scook ! Things seem much clearer to me now than before. 1. Based on your file size list and your explanation, what I can infer is that apart from the main program's core file, Craig's goodies and the new Prochannel add-ons are all cumulative and hence I'll get them all as the latest cumulative whenever I upgrade. Hope I am correct in that assumption. 2. The only content then that I currently see outside this lot is the Les Paul Gold Top Expansion Pack which is a March release but does not happen to be a Cambridge exclusive, so I could safely assume it would be available in any future upgrade month ? Here I assume it to be a separate download ? Or is it part of the core Platinum cumulative installer ?

1. Yes, the upgrade to Platinum Cambridge release uses those 4 installers. The Braintree release also happened to update those 4 installers. And those 4 installers are the only installers which contain all the changes from X3 Producer. This could change with future releases depending on what is updated. So far each release has an ezine which details the changes and the affected packages. This is typical of the update announcements and a link to the Cambridge ezine http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3197328. The automatic installer, Cakewalk Command Center, also has colored indicators when an installed package requires updating. 2. The Gold Top Expansion does not indicate it is exclusive so I assume it will be included next month too. Currently the Gold Top Collection is in the Anderton Collection installer (since he developed it).

Hi ! Just this thing I need to know before I go for the upgrade. Scook, you mentioned earlier that having X3e Producer already would need just the 313 MB file installer to upgrade to Platinum. Does that mean that X3e Producer will no longer exist separately on my machine ? Like right now, I have X1 Producer and X3 Producer as separate programs on my laptop. I guess now X3e Producer core program itself upgrades to Platinum, is that right ? Well, even if that is the case, I dont really mind as long as I dont loose any content that I got with my previous purchases like Zeta2+, Melodyne, Addictive Drums 2 and all such stuff. Can I safely presume that I would not loose any of my existing content within my core Sonar program installations no matter what kind of upgrade I go for and whatever payment plan I go for as well ?

As with previous releases, Platinum does install itself to a separate folder so you can run X3 along side it, along with any existing content. And, of course, you don't need to reinstall existing apps like AD2, DimPro or Zeta if they're already up to date.

Yes as stevec said, just like every other version of SONAR before it, the program installs in a separate folder, the shared programs update and overwrite the existing shared folders, there is also a version specific user and cakewalk content folder. IOW, this upgrade works like everyone before it except the installers a smaller making monthly updates easier.

Thanks scook. I kind of get it now and I guess any such concerns of users of previous Sonar versions may have been thought of and addressed already by Cakewalk in their model. Only thing when you say "...overwrite the existing shared folders,...", I am hoping that though its an overwrite, it still keeps intact what may have been present in earlier versions but may not be in current versions, such as V-Vocal, R-Mix (for those who may have X2 Producer), any VSTs/VSTis that may be discontinued in latest upgrades and the likes. Cheers...

Just like all upgrades of SONAR before, the new SONAR does not replace the shared folders, it overwrites and/or adds content to the shared folders. Discontinued plug-ins like V-Vocal and Pentagon are not touched. R-Mix is a VST and while the Vstplugins folder is shared, it is usually not considered a shared folder like "Shared DXi", "Shared MIDI Plugins", "Shared Plugins", "Shared Surfaces" and "Shared Utilities." Anyway, R-Mix is not affected either. The only VSTs installed by the installers mentioned above are ProChannel modules. The other plug-ins are packaged in separate installers. This is one of the few differences between older version of SONAR where all the plug-ins except DPro (and Beatscape for 8, 8.5 and X1) were in one big installer.

I have just started the downloads for Platinum. I see that there are separate download links for Rapture, Dimension Pro, Melodyne Essential and Addictive Drums 2. Are any of these newer updates than what were part of the X3e Producer package ?

No, the list I gave you above in #2 is all you need. There are no other changes from X3 Producer and the Cambridge release of SONAR for anything else. The Addictive Drums 2 installer in the new SONAR contains an rtf about how to use the XLN installer. If you know how to use the XLN installer then all you need is the "Serial Number" for the XLN Audio Addictive Drums 2 Producer bundle in your Cakewalk account so you can redeem the bundle and select your 3 ADPaks, 3 MidiPaks and 3 Kit pieces.

I just noticed there is a separate download for NYC showroom impulses for ReMatrix Solo, stated as expansion packs. I guess this could be part of the main program installer and does not need to be separately downloaded ?

Sorry forgot that one (it was scrolled off C3 when I checked the installer list), it is not in any other installer so you will need to install it too. It was added in Braintree. I find the user IR management too clumsy in REmatrix and it slipped my mind, I have not messed with the IRs. There is pdf included with the IRs about how to manage them. The pdf installs with the IRs in Cakewalk Content.

Full disclosure, since the initial release I ended up installing everything except Melodyne. Cakewalk supplies one Melodyne license per SONAR license. You received your Melodyne license with X3 and are upgrading to the new SONAR so there is no new Melodyne license. Updates for Melodyne are handled directly by Celemony. I updated everything for support purposes. There have been no changes other than the packages discusses above (and the additional IR content that I failed to mention).
