SONAR "Cambridge" Release is Now Available!
The second major release in the SONAR Membership program includes added functionality, such as an onscreen virtual MIDI controller for multi-touch or QWERTY triggering (perfect for mobile musicians), Mix Recall that now remembers all output and Bus routing as well as mix parameters, increased import/export support (Ogg Vorbis, legacy formats, the RF64 standard spec'ed by the EBU, improved MP3 export and more), new effects (ProChannel edition of Boz Digital Labs’ Panipulator, Anderton Collection "Phasor Constructor"), and an exclusive Les Paul Gold Top expansion pack for Dimension Pro with 30 new programs. Additionally, there are nearly 50 enhancements and fixes requested by the ever-growing SONAR Membership community. We love being able to bring even more new features and enhancements to the SONAR community every month. With the previous software distribution model, we would have needed to wait until the next version to release these kinds of major features--but the membership model not only slashes the response time to user requests, it lets us deliver features as soon as they're ready and tested. In addition, the SONAR Membership Release eZine provides tutorials, tips, and descriptions of all the new features.

Whoa. That's a lot of stuff. Quite happy to hear that MixRecall now remembers routing. That rounds out the feature VERY nicely and I thought it would take a lot longer to implement. Good timing too because it will com in handy once I start mixing my current (seemingly neverending) project.

I must say, I am really liking the new direction that Cakewalk is moving in. I was a bit dubious at first when the new subscription model was first announced. I am loathed to have to pay month to month for anything, as I prefer to pay up front and avoid payments, if at all possible. But once I learned we could still pay up in full (like a typical yearly upgrade fee) and still reap the monthly subscription benefits I quickly warmed up to it. Now two months in and I am already an unabashed convert. Steady flow of bug fixes, improvements and now every end of month is becoming a bit like Christmas with new toys to play with! PS: I really like the slick "SONAR Membership Release eZine" as an added bonus too! Great job Cakewalk TEAM! Billy Buck

Query: Will those new import options allow me to import old Nuendo projects directly? I obviously do not expect it to retain FX and stuff but it would be nice if I could just get all the tracks and audio in in one shot without screwing around with track by track exports or OMF. Cheers.

The improved import/export changes are audio only not proprietary DAW project formats.

Thanks. I just saw some stuff that looked like they might be DAW formats of programs I hadn't heard of and that maybe the "library" of formats or whatever might have somehow included some automagic wizardry for that type of thing. No bigs.

Yes, please check the eZine for where to find stuff. Once it's installed, to quote scook: "It might be helpful to add locations for the new features such as: - The 'Phazor Constructor FX Chain' is under FX Chain > Anderton Collection > Processors in the plug-in list
- The 'Gibson Les Paul Gold Top' expansion pack programs are in the Guitars folder in the DPro browser."

Hi Cakewalk, I see you are releasing upgrades and bug fixes together in a pay-for package. Does this mean that non-subscribers will have to buy Cambridge just to get the bug fixes? Shouldn't bug fixes be released in a free package? Thanks. Zaffer

I don't think the Gold Top programs made it to the installer. At least what I thought were the programs are not the Gold Top Programs. Not sure what the program names are. Edit: I found the DPro programs and suspect the location they installed in was due a non-standard installation. Also the Mutlisamples and sfz do not look like they are in the right place. The GTN*.sfz files are in the top level of the Mutlisamples folder with the GOLDTOPNECK at the same level. Edit: I found the missing DPro programs and it may be unique to my installation which is non-standard.

If you bought SONAR as a new user, you will also receive a year of updates and that includes the bug fixes. If you updated from X3, then you received all the updates between X3 and the latest version (Mix Recall, Control Bar, etc.), and will also receive a year of updates that includes bug fixes. Like most software companies, Cakewalk does not release bug fixes for versions that are no longer for sale. For example, there will be no new bug fixes issued for X3, X2, X1, 8.5, 7, etc. These are different programs in many ways, so to do regression testing of fixes made for the current version in previous versions would require raising the price of the software significantly to cover the resources needed to do this.

It is free to the membership. I'm a little confused by your question. Have read the announcement dealing with the new membership? What "pay for package" are you talking about?

Great job Cake! Install was quick, worked perfectly, no confusion (and I'm easily confused), and everything was found exactly where it was supposed to be. After my third installation using the CCC I'm feeling pretty comfortable with this new process. Nice job on the timing of the release and all of the work that went into these additions and fixes. Keep 'em coming! I can just feel some of the Pro Tools market share heading Cake's way!
