My Ethernet connection is wired to a Wired/Wireless router.  I've had some (not a lot but some) clicks and dropouts caused by having it enabled.  I now always disable it when doing a recording session.

Sorry to hear this... I'm surprised. I always run on a wifi hub/router.. But I keep all updates set of manual search and only use the web for DAW related needs on my DAW... It never gets any hiccups from the router that I've yet discovers...

With a WLAN card, the issue is different due to RF within the PC itself and especially if you're using FireWire which appears to be much more sensitive to to this situation...

I'm a little surprised an ethernet card is causing issues, I've had this and my previous three or four DAW PCs connected to the router by cable (right back into the days of resistor terminated co-ax network cables) without issues. Still, that's PCs for you, no two are ever quite the same.

Wireless on the other hand can be a nightmare as the combination of how Windows handles networking and multi-tasking and the drivers themselves very often cause excessive PCI bus delayed procedure call latency. Which in turn means unless the ASIO buffer is increased we get crackles and dropouts.

I do have a computer which, though less powerful than the one in my sig can run wireless networking without a glitch at a 64 sample buffer with round-trip audio latency of around 5ms. Unfortunately that computer can't run Sonar.

Wireless networking and the issues that come with it really is something the card/chip builders and Microsoft should sort out, but as the dpc latency is only noticable to people who use DAWs, edit big video files and similar processes that require very close to real time operation I guess they don't regard it as a priority.

In my experience, the problem of wifi interference has always been a matter of the audio interface's issues... Not Sonar or any other DAW software I've worked with...

The efficiency tests didn't seem a proble. Specs showed good, but trying to operate wouldn't stay stable and would periodically have dropouts and the only discovered solution centered on disabling WLAN cards or removing them and network via cat5. I have frequently created a shortcut on a client's desktop to make it faster to enable/disable their WLAN card as necessary...

But I've not had an active wifi router/hub cause me any issues themselves...

I run rptMIDI here with V-Control Free with no problems...

Just read this fred.

Keni, are you sure about rptMidi ? Its recommended to use NeyFi with V-Control.

Personally i find rptMidi very finicky to setcup and it takes forever to"shake hands" with my PC. I use iit when i fire up AC-7 (full version) but i don't find that app as good as V-Control (one click on Neyfi and away you go).

In the v-window of V-Control you can use whatever you have around (vst's, other programmes .....)

Cheers,
J

I'm waiting for Cakewalk / Gibson to bring out a touch screen like Steven Slate's Raven.

Hi j...

I don't believe there's a choice. You need to run both rptmidi and NeyFi...

I found no issues setting up or running rptMIDI at all... Once stalled it's always running (?) so I need only run NeyFi prior to starting v-control...

..and you need to have bonjour running as well...

... The RAVEN programming team developed the RAVEN Protocol that connects to your DAW instantly via the industry standard NeyFi protocol found in current versions of all major DAWs ...

...Ney-Fi is a free utility that must be installed and run on your Pro Tools computer. Ney-Fi creates a virtual software MIDI port for Pro Tools to communicate with V-Control over your network...

Either I am too stupid to understand the brilliance of the idea, or... someone just try to make some money.
