Convert your mic signal to mono
Normalize to boost````and use a gate to control raised noises.
Use Melodyne as your vocals may require some fixings anyway. One of the tools of Melodyne is the signal amplifier.

To OP:

With your posting, I'd agree with Bristol Jonesy, sounds like the 48v phantom power is not good enough for the mic you're using (it's probably because your Audiobox is using the USB connection for power, instead of an ac power adapter). That inexpensive Art Tube Mic Preamp should take care of the problem.

Don't know exactly what your speaker connectors are, so can't say what cable adapter you need. Just tell the guy at the local Guitar Center, Radio Shack, or whatever gear store you have, and s/he should tell you what adapter cable you need to connect your Audiobox outputs to your speakers.

Goodluck with whatever you come up with to use.

EDIT:

Oh, and using an XLR cable is good.

This has turned into long post and it's a very simple problem.

And there's a few unanswered question now that people have asked but you have not answered.

Is this interface buss powered or does it have a wall power supply? This can be important buss power is often not enough for phantom powered mikes.

And does the interface have a software GUI mixer?
I have to open my Focusrite mix control and toggle the input to set the PAD or instrument level correctly.
And a question I'll add is if its a hardware toggle then make sure the PAD button is not set wrong if it has one.
I shouldn't have to ask those questions but the PreSonus web site has terrible information and makes no mention of these things. There's no picture of the back panel.. not impressed..

There is a picture of the back of the Presonus Audiobox in the "media" tab of Presonus' web page about it.

Scanning the manual it takes USB power only, no socket for any other power supply. It does not have a software mixer it seems. Most of the manual is about using Presonus' own DAW and basic mic techniques, processing etc.

It strikes me from the specs that the Audiobox has a low output to start with and a very limited amount of gain at the mic pres. The specs claim phantom power is 48v/10mA as it should be.

Googling "Behringer C-1u low volume" turns up quite a lot of hits about "fixing the C-1u low volume problem" and forum posts about the C-1u having a very low output. Could be the issue is the mic not the interface. Or a combination of both.

I think it's a combination of Mic and audio interface, too, tlw. But I also think the inexpensive Art tube preamp I gave a link to earlier in this thread will solve any gain or phantom power problem he has with the equipment he has now or may get in the future, if he has to keep using the budget equipment like what he's got. Spending the equivalent of 40 more US dollars on that preamp could help. Til he gets a larger budget for better gear. :)

Agreed. Those Art preamps don't sound too bad either and make reasonable active DIs as well.
