I had to run the XLN installer after the update, but calling it an update is perhaps a little under stated. So far no other issues but there's a lot of things left to check.

I had the same issue with XLN but everything else seems to be running fine. Fingers crossed. I have the Korg Legacy collection and usually it complains about any major changes to the OS, but no issues there. Bjorn

Windows 10 decided to upgrade today. The whole process took about 5 hours. Now Sonar Pro crashes immediately at startup. I've been experiencing some USB-related mystery since the original upgrade in the summer - something causes Sonar to hang when loading a project. Due to all these problems, I have finished almost no projects in the last 3 months. There is something about older USB gear that seems to confuse Windows 10. But the crashing application is a new one on me. Boo hiss - error logs are winging there way to those wonderful folk at Sonar tech support again hopefully they can save me once again. Windows 10 and Sonar? It's cost me a lot of time and money so far, but I hope in the end it's better than keeping an out of date studio. Reinstalling my apps and OS every time there is an "upgrade" is not something we should have to accept. I just want to make music.

Which is why you should always wait at least 6 months before installing any brand new OS on a critical machine. Unless you don't mind running into issues and involuntary testing other software.

And I have a full backup on a separate hard drive.

Twice in the last week I've gotten this: I'll just type what it says because for some reason I can no longer upload a picture to a message here (I have to host it somewhere online then put the ink in the box), the utility to upload a picture just has a blank box where there should be the place to enter the file info... but anyway that is a different problem So I bet a BLUE SCREEN with a frown face. Then it says, Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, then you can restart. (xx% complete). If you'd like to know more you can search online later for: Page_Fault_in_nonpaged_area. I looked it up but it IIRC, it was over my head. In any case it seems that a restart usually fixes anything with W-10. I had to rollback one update about a month ago. Another thing that no longer works right for me is my fingerprint scanner/encryption. When I reboot, it does not work. After I logon with my PW, then it works if I close the lid for a while but it will not encrypt files anymore. Thanks MS... On another note, I get a little pleasure out of telling MS that I do not like any of the pictures they load on my lock screen, or whatever screen it is. I don't know if it is a W-10 or a Sonar thing but I get multiple error windows involving BitBridge whenever I rescan for VSTs, I noted that today when I added Amplitude4 to my laptop. I don't remember if I get these on my DAW, W-8.1, I'll check tomorrow. I'd be interested in any input on it. Reboot... it is the new W-10 fix for everything... Julien

I had many issues the minute I upgraded and decided no point and even trying to trouble shoot as my HP Windows 7 was running great! - Firewire devices didn;t work
- UAD not working
- SOme plugins wouldn;t load
- Other things as well
- I rolled back within 30 minutes becasue again, why should I have to fight those battles... Everything worked great on Win 7 and it will be supported well into this decade. As long as Sonar doesn;t abandon Win 7 we're OK. In fact, if Sonar never gave me another update, it wouldn't even bother me as Sonar, as it stands today, is so powerful already, nothing else will make my recording sound any better. My skills are the only real limitation anymore. I make pretty good recordings and I still maybe only use 30% of all the capabilities in Sonar so in my book.. screw Windows 10!

Have you tried going to your laptop manufacturer's website and doing any updates they have there for you? Laptops generally have various tailored drivers and apps and it's good practice to update these where possible anyway, but especially with a major OS upgrade. First thing I did after installing Windows 10 on my laptop was to go to the Lenovo site and find out what updates were available. There was quite a bunch of stuff related to Windows 10. My laptop is working great with 10 - granted I only use it for business things and not music, but it might be worth a try anyway in case it fixes any of your issues.

I never use Addictive Drums so I didn't notice it required re-registering for my Win 10 PC. Actually, it had not been updated since I had Win 8.1 when Sonar Platinum and added software was first installed. After seeing posts here about it, I tried it and had to update.

I've been having a ton of problems with Windows 10 and Sonar, especially since I received the "November Update" to Win10 over the weekend. I thought it was just updates, but it took over the computer for 5 hours (yet another day's work lost). Win10 seems to obsolete older USB gear, so I removed a bunch of things and "upgraded" to all the latest versions. So, after upgrading to Sonar Pro, buying a neww audio interface and going through all manner of so-called upgrades I now have an unstable system that keeps crashing. Today I thought I had it sorted after I upgraded ASIO4ALL to version 2.13 - everything was playing along nicely. And then Sonar Pro crashed AGAIN when I reloaded the project. So, I've been able to do hardly any work over the last 3 months. The support staff at Cakewalk have been helping a fair bit - but everything is getting worse. It started with Sonar just freezing when it launched, or when opening a project. Now, it just plain crashes. Personally, I would like to be able to keep my studio up to date and not have to upgrade/downgrade/uninstall/reinstall/rollback the apps and the OS when I just want to make music. Crazy.

Sorry to hear you are having problems softwhirr, but asio4all is quite likely part of your woes. I would start there as it is notoriously problematic. You would be far better off with a dedicated audio interface with proprietary asio drivers.

Heh heh - talk about shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted ;) All my other previous updates to Cakewalk stuff and OSs have been fine within 3 months of new versions (I'm talking Win95 to XP to 7 to 10). Based on this it seemed good to continue with the upgrade. I just want to get it working again.

Well, I did have the Focusrite working on Saturday, but after the Win10 upgrade, Sonar crashed on start up. I found "ASIO4ALL" references in the crash log, so I installed the latest version and managed to get it working. But for some reason I can no longer select the Focusrite device within Sonar - not sure how to get it back though - any ideas?

If the Focusrite has its own asio drivers, I would uninstall asio4all completely. You do not need it. It is an asio wrapper for sound cards that do not have proper asio drivers (Internal laptop soundcards etc). You can only have one asio driver active at a time. If you have asio4all selected in device manager, you will not be able to select any other device. Make sure you deselect it first, then select your focusrite asio driver.

jbow, I just looked at an HP Laptop with the same issue. This is a known problem with a Microsoft update: Many people have reported "caused by a recent optional Platform Update for Windows 7 x64-Edition (KB2670838).This update Is causing b.s.o.d's with igdpmd64.sys as the culprit." So the solution is to uninstall that update. How to FIX: Open Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall Programs > View Installed Updates > Find and uninstall KB2670838 > Restart computer > Open Windows Update > Check for Updates > Under optional downloads find KB2670838 right click and HIDE it. That's it until Microsoft releases a permanent fix. Note: This update is having interference with onboardly manufactured AMD Graphics of mentioned notebook models. I did this on an HP dv6t-6b00 and it seems to have fixed the issue...Good luck!

Pleae stop running ASIO4ALL esp with Focusrite devices. Uninstall it now. If you don't believe me contact Focusrite who will say the same thing. They will conflict. Once your have got rid of them then make sure you are on the latest Focusrite drivers from the web.

I tried (testing) using ASIO4ALL with a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40. The ASIO4ALL corrupted the Focusrite drivers and the drivers for the PC sound card I was using at the time. I had to uninstall the ASIO4ALL, reboot the PC and then reinstall the Saffire Pro 40 and PC sound card drivers.

I've seen this multiple times. Here's the procedure. 1) Disable any automatic booting from CD in BIOS. 2) Backup. 3) Download the media disk: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows104) Create a new windows user account. Log into this account. 5) Disable your virus scanners. 6) Run setup from the DVD within Windows. Do NOT boot off this disk at any stage (see point 1). If this fails try again with a different option (click "change what to keep"): Cheers...

I feel your pain.. Besides being a musician/singer/songwriter - I am a computer security engineer and have been around machines all the way back to the days to the DEC PDP-1170. (A long time ago) - This latest November patch release is a disaster for me - It causes an almost instantaneous crash of Sonar Platinum - UNACCEPTABLE! This is not a Cakewalk issue - it is solely Windows 10 (new patch) I have it configured so that Win 10 updates are "delayed" - and the machine has to ask my permission. I have to watch it like a hawk or it will try and push the patch, and I have to tell it no (which in Win10 speak is "later" not never). When it does sneak it past - I have to roll back - a few days later it tries again. I can't really debug and Windows does not say what is causing the crash. I am considering rolling back to 8.2 as I don't really like to and don't have the time to fight with an operating system. I run my own box, with an AMD Phenom II Quad core, 2TB of storage and 128K of RAM. IMHO Win 10 is not a stable OS and the latest patch should never have been pushed without more QA

I have a problem with the latest Windows 10 December update in Sonar Platinum and X3 Producer. It appears that my XLN Audio Addictive Drums 2' is now giving me the following message (Wrong computer id. Please make sure that your host in not run in compatibility mode. If this is not the case run the XLN Online Installer to authorize and likewise check that it is not run in compatibility mode). I don't think I can set up another computer ID name in my XLN Online Installer account' because we're only allowed to have one or two of them'. Either way, I shouldn't have to do this'... it was done a long time ago'. In a related issue, as soon as the update completed'... I lost all internet access because the drivers to my former Cisco USB WiFi adapter went obsolete, and Cisco will not support it for Windows 10 it seems' - so I had to buy a TP-Link WiFi N USB adapter a couple days ago'... which permits me to type this post ! Umm... thanks Microsoft... I think'..

stickman393 I've just applied the Windows 10 "Fall Update". Addictive Drums 2 thinks my computer has changed to the point where it says that "There is an authorization problem" and "please run the installer" (My project played back OK, but I'm not confident that will be the case for much longer, without some kind of intervention.) When I run the XLN Online Installer, it says "You currently have your maximum amount of active computers. Remove old unused computers if you need to register a new computer." Both "slots" - apparently you can register two computers - are the same physical machine. I think I used up the second slot when I re-installed AD after I upgraded to Windows 10 from Win 7, a few months ago. One of them is labelled "Windows 10 64-bit", the other is "Other/don't know". I'm going to try "removing" the computer in the second slot, and see if AD magically becomes authorized on this computer. UPDATE: The XLN Installer allowed me to re-register the PC, then asked to update the Installer app itself, then said 1 item needed updating: "XLN Cloud Sync". I don't know or care what that is, but it only took a few minutes. My project now opens without warning messages. Thanks for this post' stickman393. I too' have XLN Audio's AD2 and experienced the identical problem inside of both Sonar Platinum' and X3 Producer' when my Windows 10 update happened. After I did what you did, it stopped.
