"Improved DSP which sets a new reference in the realism of emulation"

Doesn't every single amp sim manufacturer say the same thing about EVERYTHING they release?

I like TH2. I hate the interface and I hate the presets and I hate the preset system, but all I really need out of a guitar sim is to hook an amp up to a cab, dial in a tone and start playing. I generally prefer to use my own effects. I can usually get a great tone out of TH2 in a matter of seconds.

As I mentioned on the Deals forum, I have serious issues with TH3:

Whilst the stand alone app is fine, no problem, when I use TH3 in Sonar (Platinum, current Jamaica Plain release) I have the audio engine dropping out when I open a project with TH3 in it. I created a new project with three audio tracks but with no audio clips and TH3 inserted in the tracks. If I try just about any activity (e.g. just deleting a bus) Sonar will lock up and stop responding.

Also, if I have a project with TH3 in, when it loads the audio engine drops out.  When I start it and play the track plays then sticks and then motor-boats (i.e. a brief section of sound repeated ~twice a second). Sonar stops responding and I have to terminate the program. Can't get it running successfully at all.

All other non-TH3 projects are ok, no problems. I've contacted Overloud support.

Can you update Sonar to Kingston and confirm issue is still around or not? Could easily be a JP issue. Thx.

Hi Doktor A,

No - it's still there in Kingston. Overloud Tech are looking in to it.  They can't reproduce the issue, so I'll need to send them a file which demonstrates the issue (on my machine at least).

I'll try and keep this issue to this thread (TH3 Crash Case)

Cheers

Has anyone tried deleting TH2 Producer? Would that solve the problem?

I just updated to Kingston and TH3 seems to be back in line and playing nice with SPLAT.  Not sure about the suggestion re: deleting TH2 Producer, though.  Its been in my list of plugins ever since upgrading; I suppose it can be deleted anyway.  I'm going to try rebooting to see if I can recreate the bug.  If I can't, I'm going to happily assume something got fixed when I updated.

Nope...I'm using Kingston and it crashes and burns on reload...It will be fine
while the project is open.  But close it and reload the project and hit
play and Sonar will crash and burn...even with NOTHING in the project...

A $35 upgrade price would have been the magic number for me, I won't do the $79... rarely used it anyway.

I upgraded to TH3 and to me, it's been worth the price of upgrading. The harmonizer is a big improvement over TH2. There are plenty of usable presets to customize with none to minimal tweaking.  The best thing to do is download the demo and test it out. Think of this as a test drive and if you don't like it, don't buy it.  There is a lot of time and money that is spent on R&D so this should be considered in the value of a product.  IMHO, it's easy to bash software products but in reality if you don't test the demo out and complain, then well, you are a complainer.  Check it out and see if TH3 meets your personal needs, I did and it works great for me :)  P.S Don't forget that there are also patches for Bass guitar!

Musically yours,
Stephen J. Souza

Re: Overloud TH3 2016/10/07 15:49:00 (permalink)
As many of you may have already seen in your emails (depending on your Overloud and/or Cakewalk email preferences), TH3 just released 2 Collections - "Rock" and "Metal" for $69 each, if you're wanting a more affordable intro into the world of TH3.
It's good that they've done this, IMO. Amplitube 4 has the absolute best purchase/sample business model of all of these plug-ins. Buy only one amp if you want, or one stomp box, or one cab... buy one amp, 2 cabs, 3 stomp boxes and 4 mics if you want ... buy a whole collection ... or buy the entire library.

Hopefully other plug-ins will start to pick up on this model.

I started a thread in software (should've been in deals?)hoping to find out if there's any overlap to the lite TH3 version included with SPLAT. I plan to check out the Rock one. I agree that IK's ways are very good. I have expanded my AT4, T-Racks, and ST3 stuff, plus I got the Miroslav 2.
I haven't really done much with TH2 nor 3, yet.

Sounds a lot like my set-up ... I got Amplitube 4 (Fender collection, Metal collection, Ampeg collection, and tons of additional stuff from the Custom Shop), ST3 and Philharmonik 2. Haven't invested in TRackS, though, because I have tons of other effects and processing plug-ins I'm very happy with.

I do have the Sonar Plat. version of TH3, and honestly some of those presets sound better than the Amplitube 4 equivalents. Others, not so much. I'm planning on downloading TH3's demo to get a more in-depth comparison, now that they have at least 2 collections I can choose from. Not sure I want the whole shebang ... but maybe the demo product will change my mind.
Film at 11 ....

Oddly enough, I recently found my current favorite distortion sound from one of the Blue Tubes plug-ins that come with Sonar Pl. It's their ValveDriver plug-in, in a custom effects chain that includes Cakewalk's Quad Phaser, Waves' Supertap Delay, and Overloud's Breverb2.

Interestingly, Overloud has made the on-board effects for Antelope Audio interfaces (http://antelopeaudio.com/...-tools-at-namm-2016/). I'm digging their new Zen Tour.
