Installing INS file problem
I've just bought a Roland Integra 7 module, downloaded the INS files and tried to install them. However, the PC says I need Administrator rights to do this - but I am the Administrator! I've tried to copy the file from the download folder into Cakewalk - same problem! Then I saved the file to a USB flash drive on another computer and tried to copy from there - same problem!! Tried setting up another Administrator account - same problem. It seems to prevent me because the file has to go into the Program Files - and it won't let me do that. Anyone know how to get round that??

If it's a .exe file, just right click it and select "Run as Administrator" Be aware that there is big difference between running a program "As Administrator" and having Admin rights! Running a program "As Administrator" gives you an elevated set of privileges.

Being Administrator is not the same as having admin rights when it comes to windows... You need to use the 'run as administrator' right click option.

Hi Guys...thanks for the replies. The INS is an instrument definition file (.ins) It is not an .exe. The file is a text file which lists all the patches in the Roland by name so I can call them all up in my DAW without needing to use the screen of the Integra 7. Right mouse button does not offer run as administrator. Any other ideas??

Can you open the file in Note Pad? Save as>rename and try again?

The ins files are not "installed". They are imported from a Sonar menu. Here's from the manual: To import instrument definitions 1. Go to Edit > Preferences > MIDI - Instruments. 2. Click Define to display the Define Instruments and Names dialog box. 3. Click Import to display the Import Instrument Definitions dialog box. 4. Choose the file that contains instrument definitions for your manufacturer, and click Open. SONAR displays a list of all the instrument definitions in the file. 5. Choose one or more instruments from the list, and click OK. 6. Click Close to close the Define Instruments and Names dialog box. After that, you would assign midi ports/channels to the new instruments.
