Re: Remote control Sonar using ipad

bwbalint Success!! I tried using Sonar's 'Mackie control' as the setup for Lemur, but it never connected. I then used Alexey Zhelezov's AZController and voila! it connected and works just like my MCU PRO. And I am using LoopMIDI, which is free. Now I will save everything and hope Sonar remembers it all. I will probably edit the Lemur setup that I have, as there are a few things I really don't use. Best of all I can now go back to my 'isolation room' and add new tracks, arm and record at will! Thanks
Several comments on that: * Mackie preset in AZ Controller has several inconsistencies compare to the original plug-in, it was created as a prove it can be created. And it was not polished after (yet). To get exactly the same functionality ans MCU Pro in Sonar, in case you have "Connecting..." problem, take this one: http://www.azslow.com/index.php/topic,341.0.htmlThis is modified original plug-in which has "Disable handshake" option. * If you have real MCU Pro and want both controller work independently, check this: http://www.azslow.com/index.php/topic,310.0.html Note that I have not updated "Mackie 2" for a while, I do not remember either it has "Disable handshake" and for sure it has no ProChannel Compressor fix (Sonar can crash when you attempt to control ProChannel Compressor, that is Sonar bug, affecting original MackieControl and this Mackie 2 at the moment. A workaround is applied in my moded Mackie 1 and AZ Controller). * Lemur is freely configurable. AZ Controller also. You can try to create your own configurations for both, independent from any Mackie "dogmas". Lemur and AZ Controller support OSC directly, so no other daemons / MIDI Looper required to pair them. Not with Lemur, but the video explains the idea: http://www.azslow.com/index.php/topic,295.0.html

Tried both eyoControl and AC7, got them to connect but the Transport and master fader do not respond. Used Mackie Control XT...and AC7 doesn't appear to have a bank advance button. Eyo does. So not there yet. Maybe the other Mackie Control in devices will work better... Nope. Same on MC C4. What's worse, drag the pan pot, fader goes with it. hit solo, mute, sometimes adjoining track solos, mutes. record button buggy too. this is for both apps. Same behavior. This is on an iPad 2, running Windows 10, and current SPLAT. Not sure what is the offending piece of this puzzle, but I am not going to use either at this point. Next app...? So while some may have these apps working fine, I am not. Beware.

Alexey, I have not found this anywhere, but how many OSC targets are required to get Lemur connected to AZ controller in Sonar? and the port numbers would start with 8000, then 8001, as needed? Thanks for your work on all this. It has made connecting with an external control surface much easier. -Bart

For OSC, ONE port is IN. Out port is (normally) not important. If Lemur can speak with several different computers (targets), you need only one for AZ Controller. There is still probably only IN port in Lemur, and this number should be set in AZ Controller. There is on IN port in AZ Controller and it should be set in Lemur. Real communications are going as following: Lemur (random port) -> AZ Controller (IN port) AZ Controller (random port) -> Lemur (IN port). In other words messages are accepted from any port, but to be received they should know correct destination. The same as with "return address" on paper mail (in fact AZ Controller is using this "return address", but only for IP part, not the port). Note that for stable operations you should configure your WiFi router to give fixed IP addresses for all devices involved. See the router documentation. That is no AZ Controller specific, everything can "randomly disconnect/timeout" otherwise, including Bonjour advertised communications. F.e. Lemur with anything, other apps with any other DAWs, network connected surfaces.

markyzno I have my iPad setup as an extra monitor which means portable touch screen for Sonar...Very handy. Thanks for mentioning this Mark! "Duet" works really well. Personally, I put the Track View on the iPad and undock the Console/Matrix etc onto my main PC screen where the real estate is an advantage. I still use V-Control for when I want to start and stop carriage away from the PC so they both have their uses. I've pressed my wife's iPad into service to deal with the Omnisphere whizzy stuff!

These things never work for me. I'm trying it with an Android Galaxy S5 and Air Duet Screen thru WiFi. I got it to "Connecting..." and it just hangs. I already have a 2nd monitor thru HDMI and wonder if that's interfering.

This may not work with systems already using 2 displays. I tried Duet that way and it killed my 2nd monitor on Windows 10 Alienware L/T.
