Clean audio folder crashes Sonar
Hi all, Does anyone else have this issue. It's actually been going on for many versions of Sonar for me:7, 8, 8.5, X1 and now X2. When I try to use clean audio folder it crashes Sonar. I have my Sonar files on a separate disc (not C:). I open the dialog, choose the audio path for that disc and click "find". It will search for a bit and then crash. Can anyone think of why this happens? I would love to clean out all the unused audio files in my projects. Thanks for the help!!

I'm sure a lot of people do use the CWAF tool, but I'm equally sure a lot of people don't! Another - and possibly more reliable way - is to do a save as of ALL your projects (1 at a time I'm afraid) to a new location (saving all projects to a new folder is good) but you must ensure you've got "copy audio with projects" checked. Once you've done this, you can safely delete the originals. Just one caveat, depending on how many projects you've got - this can be very time consuming, but it works.

Thanks Jonesey. It will take a ton of time to do it that way. Lots of projects but I think your suggestion will work. The other way used to be saving a project as a bundle but I'm not sure that's a recommended way any more.

I was having that problem where it would hang and take forever, so I opened a file that was a little less crowded with audio (my projects are big with many takes depending on the client) and let it run its course, went for dinner, drinks and came back and it had completed its cycle. So, although it did appear to hang and not respond at earlier times, this time I let it take all the time it wanted and it completed.

It is often up to a certain Software. Think about what you have installed, since it is no longer running. Make sure, that "clean Audio" runs only on drives with audiofiles. Other files should be removed from your Computer.

Other files should be removed from your Computer I'd be very sceptical about removing anything prior to running the CWAF tool The vast majority of all computer files are there for a reason.

I would definitely go with Bristol Jonesey's method.
I have heard of a few people having problems with the CWAF tool, but just as many who haven't. I have not, but then again, I don't use it.

I found that after the evil 'not Responding' message, leave it a while. What I don't understand is why the audio folder cleaner scans all drives instead of only the selected audio path. Waste of time and resources doing that.

I agree about scanning all the drives. Why ask if it's just going to scan everything anyway. What actually happens is I get a "Sonar has stopped working-A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program". Kills the process every time.

Sonar Platinum crashes frequently! I tried audio cleanup tool , it crashes, I tried several remedial actions without success each time. It seems to me that the ever dreaded "SONARPLT.exe has stopped responding" and or the like....has become the norm. SAD....as I really like Sonar. I wonder how Sonar fares against other DAW , when crashes are tallied?

I have a complaint with this tool as well but it does work. it just takes for ever to finish. if you start clicking the screen before it finishes then yes, it will white screen, however, it will recover from white screen if you wait for it to finish. total pain, I know. try using the CWAF tool instead.
