Command Centre... what a breeze!
Must say installing cake stuff has always been historically a worrying time for me with problems with serial numbers and so forth. For this reason alone I've been putting of updating my laptop (still running X3e) even though I've been keeping my studio tower up to date all along, and Iv'e been around since Pro-Audio 6 days. Well what a breeze! Like I've never experienced a smother update in all my life. Loaded Command Centre then just went for it loading all I need on my laptop for live work. Now I'm sitting here thinking “How Easy Was That” So here is a big thanks to all involved in this huge improvement
I have empirical evidence this is true... (Bender told me!) Cakewalk by BandLab, Splat and other DAW's PC = Win 10 64 Bit, i7 3770, 16Gb RAM, 256GB Samsung 2.5’ 840 PRO SATA6GB/s SSD 1, and 2 x 2Tb Internal, Monitors = 2 24” Samsung SA450 and 1 20” Dele Edirol = Octa-Capture-UA1010, Quad-Capture-UA55, PCR-500, Berringer 2 x FBC 1010 Alesis Control Pad KRK monitors

Yes,I can confirm this. Yesterday I installed Splat via CCC on a new notebook. Downloading , registering aso very fast in one step....... That is the easiest concept doing that compared to other companies Kudos, bakers.

I agree, updating couldn't be easier! And the tutorial vids you can watch during the update are quite helpful. One thing I don't understand, though, is that when I click "Update All", when it's finished, there's still a "Update" button. To be on the safe side, I clicked both, but shouldn't it be enough to just click "Update All"? Other than that, it's a breeze.

I agree as well. Using CCC make everything easier. Toontrack have just started using a similar "Product Manger", and last night it also made updating my MANY Toontrack products (and installing a new one) "a breeze". It reminded me how much I appreciate the CCC. The rollback feature is also excellent, not that I have needed to use it much.

Disagree. X3e was a breeze, SPLAT took most of my day.

I really like the CCC too. I was hesitant to use it at first because I wanted to avoid having it installing files on my C drive. However, I set up symlinks prior to running CCC and that worked, keeping program files on a separate SSD. Note that Native Instruments' installers often wreck symlinks (although I found a workaround for that). It's nice that CCC obeys them.

Why was that Brian? it really shouldn't take that long, unless you're on a dialup.

It's always been smooth and fast and trouble-free for me, on 2 different (both older) machines. I have quite fast internet here, so that is expected, but the software has not been a bottleneck. I would like to see it get pause and resume functionality, for sure, and I'd like 'Update All' to actually update all (as opposed to only updating all the sub-category items available for update, but *not* Sonar itself, which is what it's always done here) - but other than that I haven't had an issue with it, and I much prefer it as a way of managing CW software. Having said that, I wonder if someone will ever find a way to unify all the 'software center' type things we end up with? I have at least 6 now - Cakewalk, Native Instruments, Arturia and IK Multimedia, Waves, Addictive... Probably a few others I can't think of as well. A master updater that could run all the others as slaves and check them for updates would be a handy thing.

X3 producer was installed on the same computer. I actually download all the files on a computer with a fast internet connection, transfered those files and put them in the proper folder for CCC to use them. C:/Program Data/Cakewalk/Command centre/Downloads However, it would try to install, get to the very last portion, throw an error...say not successful and roll back the install process. A search on the forum indicated that it was related to a Windows update that was needed for it to work. I think it was this one: DLL/OCX: RegSvr32 failed with exit code Ox3 http://forum.cakewalk.com/Solved-SONAR-201603-Install-Fail-m3393632.aspx Installs would stall multiple times which I'd have to stop and start over, then get the error at the end of the install that looked like it would work. Literally hours and hours worth of work and attempts. Remember this is on a computers that X3 installed without any issue at all. After manually uninstalling the Visuall C++ stuff a few times and re-installing. I got it to work on a couple of my computers. One did not install using CCC. And I have another computer that I still can't get it to work on. (so I'm not even factoring in the download time)

I have to agree with CCC being a breeze. Used CCC since December 2014 (first with X3 producer, then with Splat) and used it to install all my Cakewalk software since and I have had zero issues with it. It just works, every single time.

Hi Brian, The issues you ran into are not related to C3 at all. Unlike X3, SONAR Platinum utilizes the latest VS redistributables from Microsoft. These *require* that your computer is up to date with all windows updates, esp if you are running an older OS like Windows 7. If you follow the suggestions in the thread you linked to you will see that others resolved their install issues. I realize install issues are frustrating but this one is out of our control since its managed by Microsoft and OS dependent. If you run older OS's then you need to keep them up to date.

Thanks Noel, I manually deleted the Visual C++ stuff and installed the new. 1 computer worked fine with CCC after that 2 computers eventually worked with Manual installs of the .exe (one of these computers still had a CCC error that basically says contact customer support). I did get it to install on all 3 computers that I use at separate times, but none of them had a flawless install even with the updates applied. Even the one that worked fine with the CCC, it still had a few stalls and restarts before it actually worked. So I have Splat installed, but certainly the CCC was not a breeze for me personally. As someone that does not like to hook up my Studio PC to the internet, I don't like to update Windows when it is working just fine. I appreciate the sympathy directed towards the install issues. I'm set for now.

I've installed Platinum today using CCC. Good experience! Last time I installed Sonar it was X2, I can't remember the detail, but I do remember being completely stressed. The sooner developers others follow the better. This is exactly how it should be, thank you Cakewalk.

I'm glad you got it working. I understand not wanting to update a PC when it appears to be working, esp if you are in a studio environment with clients. This approach is fine when you aren't making ANY other changes to the system such as doing software updates to other programs (like SONAR). In this specific scenario we added support for a new microsoft component that has dependencies on other updates of theirs. So sometimes the best alternative is keeping your system up to date. Personally I have never had any major problems with Windows updates so I leave it on always. Another approach is to set aside some time periodically like once a month, to backup and then bring the system up to date fully. That way if there is an issue you can restore the system easily. I'm not sure why some systems are more susceptible to update issues with the Microsoft redists than others. Perhaps a combination of other software installs and OS versions...

Also, if you're going to do this monthly, then the best day of the month to do this is specifically on the second Tuesday of the month (in the USA). This is what is known in the IT industry is "Patch Tuesday" - meaning it's the day that Microsoft release all their patches and updates for the month.
