This thread got me to pull out my old PG albums, so thanks for that folks. I have to say, tired, old, PG tunes are still better than 90% of the pap I hear on the radio today. I find it sad that looks and image are now more important than the quality of the music. Instant stardom via youtube, idol, the voice is what people want.

For some reason, mainstream music is "The Monkey's" on steroids. That old line from Saturday Night Live "How you look is more important than how you feel" pretty much sums up music in the 21st century - for me.

Regards, John

...

This was a problem for me in the 1970's when a lot of music and radio/tv specially, became so selfish and boring. I believed in the music and in the words, and STILL DO, but for a lot of folks, the words don't mean crap, even if they remember them, which some folks love to quote left and right, and have no idea what the heck they are about.

It's similar to the early Grateful Dead stuff, when some words were apparently just ... some kind of nothing ... but in the end, there was nothing that was "nothing" about them at all ... although they were not pointed per se, they were still valuable and very clear as to what they were saying. And it was the "personal" revolution that was being ignored in favor of the hit and the famous.

I do not believe that all music and lyrics has to be passionless and meaningless, however, after a while, it's like ... so ... you are empty?

PG, for me, was valuable for a time, and then that was it. ANGE, AMON DUUL 2, BANCO, and many others were far more valuable in what they did, and their honestly was unmistakable, and it was not just a song trying to take advantage of the public and their susceptibility to a "hit" and not something that has more to teach you, than even a Sunday at Church could.

I just find it sad, when talking to many folks my age ... they miss their teens because they could dance and pick up another girl ... and ended up with the wrong one, and feeling like they did not get their moment in Shangri-La. You can not get that moment in Shangri-La by being FAKE. Heck, all you gotta do is have a toke, and/or test good acid ... it might teach you something!

As the man used to ask ... are you experienced?

Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!
