This is excellent! The vocals are great and the backing vocals as well. The only thing, for me, was I thought it should have been limited to acoustic guitars. The percussion was very nice but I thought the lead just stuck out.

Either way, excellent song!!!

Thanks Robert.

but I thought the lead just stuck out.

Well, that's what I do. If the song was acapella I'd still throw an electric guitar solo in there.

James,

Had a listen earlier in the week but didn't get a chance to comment.   Beautiful song and very well performed and mixed.   Had the same thought this time through, I kept expecting to hear a little bass and maybe some random percussion (particularly during the guitar solo).    It certainly stands on its' own as is though.

Vocals are superb.  Sounds like a cross between Peter Gabriel and Jon Anderson to me:)

how can you be so good at nailing the English folk sound and then at the drop of a hat nail the US folk sound too?
great playing and such intelligent lyrics. the mix is your usual model of clarity. love how you switch the backing to electric guitar briefly after the solo.
perhaps the ending/final chorus could be a bit bigger with a change in percussion would be my only thought.

Thank you Mark. Tim has an empathy for both English Folk and Americana; he's from the West Country of England but lived in the US for many years. Can't help but rub off on his writing. I particularly love the 3rd verse in this song, the 'Mark Twain' scenario.

Wow, that is some nice stuff!   The imagery in the lyrics is really strong and the vocals themselves sound so good (re: the Peter Gabriel meets Jon Anderson comment above).   The supporting instrumentation is right there with it though...   subtle, yet full and balanced.
