Sonar X3 Studio

Since I've had such a good experience here asking about the new deal with Sonar Studio, I wanted to ask this also.

The friend that got me started with Cakewalk is a loyal user. He's not on line a lot so I told him I would ask and get the ball rolling and maybe we'd have some replies when he logged back on.

He has Sonar X3 Studio and wanted to know if the same upgrade to Paltinum applied to that, and what the upgrade cost is. I can't find anything about X3 Studio, unless it is the plain ole "X 3" I remember. I'm hoping someone here can give us the info because he'd like to upgrade when I do.

Thanks!

X3 Studio to Platinum is $299
All Platinum upgrades through Aug 31 include updates for life.
    Only Platinum includes lifetime updates.

The current version of SONAR comparable to X3 Studio is SONAR Professional.
X3 Studio to SONAR Professional is $99. This includes updates for 1 year.

    Thanks!

Oh...and more one question...I see that the MP3 Encoder is still listed for sale. Did Cakewalk never include that with any of these high end programs? I have never understood their reluctance to include something as basic and essential as this. I'd rather them build in an extra $10 than to make you buy it separately. What gives with Cakewalk still not including the MP 3 encoder? Or is it included and the purchase is separate for the less expensive versions of Cakewalk recording software?

Cakewalk has to pay a license fee to include the mp3 encoder with their programs. They pass that cost on to the consumer.
But many folks don't want to pay for the CW version, already having one or preferring a free or more well-featured audio editor. For instance, my WMP included an audio converter which works fine. I don't want to pay $10 for something I already have.

No it does not. But you could do a custom install of X3, and just install VC 64.
    All the best.

I know that the policy used to be that you could use a CAKEWALK DAW software on two computers....the thinking being that a lot of people have a desk top and a laptop and they want to be able to use the program on both.

Is that still the case? Can I purchase Platinum and put in on the laptop I'm currently trying it on, and also download it for my main desk top DAW?

And does the same apply to the MP3 encoder? One download or two?
    Thanks!

Yes Cakewalk still permits multiple installs of the same SONAR license including the mp3 license.

If you ever purchased the mp3 license for a previous Cakewalk DAW or own another Cakewalk DAW with an mp3 license (for example Pro Audio 9), that is sufficient for support to provide the current mp3 unlock program for free. The fee for the mp3 license is a one time charge.

Best news of the day! Thanks for the update! Maybe in a few more days I'll be back up to speed in the world of SONAR.

I think the rule is that you can have it installed on more than one computer but not running simultaneously. I'm finding that I want an additional license because lately I've been wanting to open two separate computers and run sonar on both. Anyone know what an additional license would cost? I can't see anything online.

I only run one at a time. Seems like someone at Cakewalk here replied once that they built in the factor that a lot of people have a desk top and a laptop and would like to use it on both.
