After long layoff from SONAR - I can't simply register and activate my SONAR 8 Producer

Hi All,

I took a big break from DAW but now I need it and just tried installing it from my original install discs.

But when start SONAR 8 (running it under ADMIN) and enter the serial number to start the registration process I get the following:

"This serial number has already been registered but it appears to be registered to another customer.

If you purchased this product third-hand, unfortunately our licenses are non-transferable. We apologize for the inconvenience. If this is the case, we recommend contacting the seller for a refund. Our official list of qualified Cakewalk dealers can be found athttp://www.cakewalk.com/Dealers

If you purchased this product through an official Cakewalk dealer or through Cakewalk directly, you may be receiving this message in error. Please contact Cakewalk Customer Service for assistance. Our official contact information can be found athttp://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Contact"

Now, I don't know about you guys but there was a time when Calkwalk had tons of issues with registering folks on their Forums platform (forum.calkwalk.com) , their site (Calkwalk.com) and their store (store.calkwalk.com). I remember how intuitive the whole registration process was in addition to them attempting to move all their registered users to a new platform.

I don't know if that's the problem, but I have a reciept of my purchase, but ever single Calkwalk phone number i try to call says they are not answering the phones any longer! What kind of company refuses to take phone calls from their customers? I submitted an email to support and got a note that they would possibly get back to me in 3 days!

Is Cakewalk going out of business? If they are not, IMHO they are definitely on their way with this type of customer service.

So, the issue remains. I own the product, but Cakewalk is refusing to activate my product.

Anyone have a suggestion other than wisecracks like  "buy another product?" That's pretty obvious...
I have lots of mixes i need to export out of this program.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Hi. You only need to register it once. Just install SONAR 8, and use your serial number. Hope it helps.

Make sure your registry is cleared of any Sonar entries before reinstalling.

Still can't get it to launch.

Here's what I've done so far.
I uninstalled Sonar 8 Producer. Re-installed it
Unplugged from Internet. Launched Sonar and got the same registration page asking me for Serial and REG code.
When I submitted (offline) I still got the same msg:
"This serial number has already been registered but it appears to be registered to another customer.

Additional notes:
I opened up my Chrome browser and went to "Manage Passwords"

I have (3) different types of UN & PWs for Cakewalk

1- Cakewalk.com
2- Forum.cakewalk.com
3- Store.Cakewalk.com

Did Cakewalk convert to a Single Sign On system while i was away where just a single User name/email address and Password can get you into any Cakewalk part of their site?

I also noticed when resetting one of my UN & PWs it sent the verification to an old comcast.net email address I had.

Anyhow, regardless the problem remains this:

This serial number has already been registered but it appears to be registered to another customer.

I AM THE REGISTERED OWNER - but Cakewalk's web site can't tell.

not sure how to fix this problem.

Does Cakewalk support read these posts in this forum.....if so PLEASE CALL ME!

I just re-installed SONAR 8 and it won't launch. It requires me to put in my REG code which I do, then it tells me this:  "This serial number has already been registered but it appears to be registered to another customer.

Problem is I sitting here holding my original purchase receipt for SONAR 8.

How can my  serial number be registered to another customer?

you need to set the program to administration to get the activation code to work sometimes but there may be issues with other soft synths activation, so after activation of the code you may need to reverse to no admin to run for an activation codes for soft synths...

Everything has changed, The company is no longer owned by Roland but by Gibson/Tascam and so all registration and whatnot changed a few years ago to the new system. Your on the forum so you must have figured that out.
As said all your accounts are now under one sign on and password. If you have old email address registered to the product you need to have that changed.
Can you log on to your accounts page. This is found at the top of this page under  "Cakewalk / Support"/ My Account.

You'll need to resolve that to carry on.
There's no point getting mad at the new Cakewalk people. They didn't sell you Sonar 8. That company no longer exists. And every one here has moved on. Use you old Sonar to get a discount on the new version. With a lifetime membership being offered now is the best time to upgrade.

Clearing the registry requires regedit in the start menu. Then search the entire registry for sonar. Delete each entry found so no reference to Sonar exists.

It sounds like you may need to update your account login too. There is now one sign in for everything.

You may also want to PM an administrator about all this

He'll need to resolve this first.  None of the other things will matter if CW doesn't recognize him as the authorized user.

Hopefully Zargg is out there and will see this.
Zargg replied saying"Hi. You only need to register it once. Just install SONAR 8, and use your serial number. Hope it helps.

Question: When I install Sonar X2 on my laptop it brings up the registration window which asks for the serial number (already populated) and asks for the code.  Do I reply "register later" if I have already registered it?
To further confuse the issue...cakewalk site shows No Products for me when I login so I can't get the code from there.
I know I Registered it because I have been using it on my main PC for 2 years approx.

Please and Thank you for any help you can provide.
Cheers

You do need to enter both the serial number and registration code to activate X2. You cannot generate a new registration code for a product already registered. If the product is missing from your account follow the instructions here http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3148924
