Tempo Ratio

I use the tempo ratio a lot in Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.0 along with the Line tool in piano roll view. Does X1 have a tempo ratio feature? It's really nice to 1 click and get half speed.

No, Not that I know of.  But you can use the scrub tool if you just want to hear a section at slow speed for editing purposes.

    Cheers,

Thanks for reply. I'll submit a feature request. I guess if enough people ask for it we could see it in some version down the road.

I submitted a feature request too. I used this feature quite frequently in PA9. Very handy to click on a button and hear playback at half or double speed.

I'm not sure...but I think that feature is still there...or was until quite recently.  (I just checked.  It's not in X1 (or at least...I can't find it), but it is in 8.5.3.)  The trouble is that you can't have any audio tracks in your project.  It has to be all MIDI or the functionality gets disabled.

Dan, that makes sense that a project with an audio track would not be able to use the tempo ratio option. BUT...for people like me who do a lot of sequencer stuff it sure was handy. It would be nice to have it back. I record my audio tracks on my Alesis HD24 anyway, and then import them once I have all my audio tracks recorded. But I also know that I am an exception and not the norm :) .

I've asked the same question about Sonar X2. I keep looking for a way to change the tempo ratio like I could in older versions. Why would they take that out? The only reason I would upgrade to a newer version of Sonar is if they were to put that functionality back in to it. Otherwise, I'm a bit of a low level user that doesn't need most of the stuff they've been adding to the newer versions.

I haven't tried this recently, but if you have an all MIDI project, it may work.  That is to say, SONAR can't host any audio...not even from soft synths.  All your MIDI needs to go to external devices.

8.5.3 was the last version that had it. Just one more item in the long list of things we lost with the X series that was never replaced.

A deep chesty bawl echoes from rimrock to rimrock, rolls down the mountain, and fades into the far blackness of the night. It is an outburst of wild defiant sorrow, and of contempt for all the adversities of the world. - Aldo Leopold

I can't answer for X1, but the newer versions of Sonar (Artist, etc.) have restored the tempo ratio commands. They, however, are not as apparent as they were in the pre-X versions of Cakewalk. You can assign them via keyboard bindings and/or buttons on the custom module of the control bar. (Right click on the custom module and choose "commands.")

FWIW, remember that this feature will only work if the project clock is set to "internal."

Yes, this feature became mostly obsolete with the advent of Audio support because all the audio would need to be stretch-enabled in order to follow tempo changes. It only works in a pure MIDI project driving external hardware synths with Project Clock set to 'Internal' (PC System clock), and using the MIDI metronome.
