and there's also the Rocksmith videogame, which I've heard is supposed to be pretty good, though I haven't tried it.

My son works for them as note tracker (i.e. he tells the programmers what notes make up a riff of what chord is being played where). He says other than lacking in teaching music theory (which the OP would probably not need) it's a damn fine guitar/bass teaching tool. He also stresses it's not a "game" although to the uninitiated it may look like that.

Nice! I actually just got the recently released Remastered edition, so I'll be checking it out soon.
Yeah, I just said videogame because that is how it is sold and technically it is run on gaming consoles (PS4 here ) but it does run on PC/Mac as well.

This list of "6 reasons you're never too old to learn an instrument", was in the ProAudioLand email this morning, so I figure it adds to the "pile".

I've been playing gtr for 50 years and I still suck ..... at least within the perspective of where I would like to be versus where I am at.  There is being able to strum open chords around the campfire singing "Comin' round the mountain", and there is jamming out burnin' leads that set your amp on fire.  So that is your answer:  where you plan to get to and what you are willing to sacrifice to get there.

I am "Five Foot Wall" on Spotify, Deezer, etc.  Platinum, Windows 7 64bit, AMD FX-6100 hex-core @3.8ghz, 8 gig ram (never use more than 5 gigs), Delta 44, UM-2
