HOME STUDIO?

It's on the main page. I've seen where someone bought it. What is it? Where does it fit in the line up? Why don't I see it announced in the forums or listed in the Store?

The Home Studio line ended a few years ago with, I think HS 7.
    I'm still using HS 6.

Wow, This might sound weird, But I think I'm going to buy it!   I love the look of that clean interface without all that clutter.. I bet I can do everything I do now, only thing missing is all my plug ins which I assume will show in the manager. Thanks for the link Greg.

Just think! no monthly updates,,, yeah!  I can just keep working without distractions....
I wonder if it does the playlist?

Yes, Home Studio is back. I'm guessing it fits between Sonar Artist and Music Creator. Though the price is closer to MC, I'd rather buy Artist. I'd like to compare HS to MC to see how close their feature set is.

Well I don't know where you ( Greg) found that link, I just looked at every possible page in the store and there's nothing about it anywhere. Only your link takes your somewhere.
I guess this is so new they have not updated the web site yet. It does not show on the "products" dropdown.
Anyhow I'm downloading now, but I realised it's my W7 laptop, so I was looking to see if that's going to work or not as the sparse documentation only mentions W10 and 8. The links for "system requirements" takes you to a page titled for the 3 main versions.
I even used the search in the store and knowledge base.

I hate the way the Command Centre has to re scan which takes a loooonng time.
It would be nice to tell it not to check most of the stuff everytime. It still checks for updates for all my old versions.

One thing is that with Home Studio CW often tries new ideas out in it before they put it in Sonar.

I think the new "LENSES" feature coming in the Nov 16 update will give you the ability to set up a clutter free interface for certain tasks (e.g. Tracking).

I can't yet tell the difference between the new "Lenses" and "screensets" but I am sure all will become clear in the next week or so

looks like a limited Sonar version. no point spending money on that. you can probably customize Sonar screenset if you want less cluttered interfaces ... and then you dont need to change applications if you want to turn it into a bigger project ...

soon the new workspaces will arrive and that should allow you to streamline the interface even further to fit your needs

If it does that would be very useful to a couple of friends. They are just starting to record music and want to avoid detailed production work so a basic edition of Sonar would be ideal. However they would be interested in bringing the track to me because I am interested in production work and have a lot of the more advanced features.

I would think a lightweight minimalist screenset is already an option for Platinum.

    Plus this:

soon the new workspaces will arrive and that should allow you to streamline the interface even further to fit your needs

    http://www.cakewalk.com/P...ng-Updates#In-The-Oven

I just selected the "Trackview" screenset, and hid the inspector and browser views.  This seems uncluttered, perfect for tracking.

Anyway, I have a modest dual-core i5 laptop with 4GB RAM, and a slow HDD, that launches and runs Platinum just fine.

What would be the advantage to running a second Cakewalk DAW?

DAW: CbB; Sonar Platinum, and others ...

Well here's the scoop. I had no problem with W7 64 bit. It opened and asked a few questions. Recognised my Tascam interface etc. Scanned my plug ins ( I have the latest Platinum on this laptop too) I seem to have everything plug in wise and effects too.  So other than pro channel, which I do not use, nothing will change for me working in this version.
My plan is to use it for live playback and therefore I am hoping it is more stable on this older laptop than Plat. I I love the look of this and it's layout is both familiar and uncluttered. For me $50 well spent and I feel good about supporting a favourite developers work.

running Sonar on an Acer win10 tablet for years now. perfectly light weight for live backing tracks, but also heavy weight when need i.e. I used the tablet PC to record full multi-mic'ed brass band.

To my knowledge, ALL Sonar programs use/open the same formats. You can even open the older .wrk files in them.
However, features and plugins exclusive to other versions won't be included so the project will be hindered to that affect.

I have HS7 too. HS6 and prior used the same GUI as Sonar. HS7 introduced a whole new GUI with less features and functions than HS6 for the same price. A bad move IMO.

Been playing around with it a for a hour or so. Really it's a basic version of the currant Sonar with a few different ways the layout works, The Lenses feature is just a different Screen set system.
I'm not sure if TTS-1 was included because I have a bare bones version of Professional installed on this other Laptop I'm trying out. I was going to uninstall Professional but for some weird reason it does not show in the list of Programs? So I left it there.
Does "delete this file" in CCC uninstall stuff?

I like it and it's sounding great even without an audio interface. It defaulted to WASAPI  mode which is cool,, much better than MME.

So for the money this is a bargain for folks looking for a more than basic DAW. The SI drum kit is the biggest weakness but of course thats to be expected at this price point. Easy enough to purchase a dedicated drum VST.
I could transfer my second licence to AD2 if need be for live performance.

I'd like to have a basic DAW on a mobile laptop, but I don't want to spend much and I don't want the pain of learning another DAW.  I've tried a free version of Cubase LE Elements...clunky and confusing.

I considered MC, but this HS could work nicely.

My wife is getting it for her desktop. She's been using Audacity and I'd bought her a LE version of X3(?) but she uninstalled that for some reason.
So, thanks for sharing your feedback!

I wasn't sure how CCC on this laptop would work, whether there would be a conflict with my studio pc where CCC, SPlat and other CW products are installed.  But, no worries, it worked perfectly.

I bought HS at the CW Store; downloaded CCC to this laptop; launched it and signed in with my existing account; downloaded HS to this laptop and ran it.

I didn't download the Classic Creative FX Suite or the SI, but HS includes the Sonitus Suite...sweet.  Between those plugins and some additional free Fx available on the web, I'm all set with this mobile rig.
