SOLVED.....ERROR LOADING CAKEWALK MP3 ENCODER
I am trying to install a cakewalk MP3 encoder that I purchased several years ago onto my new pc, but when I attempt to load it I get an error message that : Cant locate shared utilities the shared utilities folder cannot be found. Please install Shared folders by installing your cakewalk applicaton first (sonar x alread is installed) , then try installing the Cakewalk MP3 encoder (unlimited -use version) again... What the hell????

Seasons Greetings. I can try to help. At what point do you get the error? Also, what is your version of Sonar, Windows, etc. The more info, the better.

I am running SONAR X1 on a 64bit Windows 7 AMD machine. When I attempt to export a MP3 SONAR is telling me to go to cakewalk.com that : The MP3 encoder must be unlocked before use. Please visit cakewalk.com to upgrade a previous encoder, or to purchase a new encoder. Thats when I attempted to load the old cakewalk encoder

Right, so are you getting the error while attempting to install the mp3 encoder? EDIT: Also, have you tried running it as Administrator?

You will find a download link for the encoder in your My Products page on the Cakewalk site. Download it and run it to install. Bob Bone

You may have the old Cakewalk mp3 encoder and need the new Cakewalk mp3 unlock program. You will need to contact Cakewalk support to get the correct program.

I think Chuck is right. Do you have a serial/key for the encoder? If so, try registering it here: https://www.cakewalk.com/Register?lid=3 I haven't had much luck registering old stuff, but maybe you will.

@ Telecharge....I dont have the serial/key and I dont even see it listed on my cakewalk acct. of past registered products-I just have the actual encoder program backed up on my external hardrive; someone sent me a link referencing missing serial/key info. do to purchases made using multiple email accts., but I have only used one email acct. for my 12 year purchase history using cakewalk products so dont think that would apply to me. I sent support an email and am waiting a response.... I thought about just purchasing it again because I urgently need to send some MP3 files to someone immediately, but I hate to purchase something I already paid for or worst yet, have the new one not function either. Gonna to look up running as administrator and loading to see if that helps.

Coolwatersmusic Gonna to look up running as administrator and loading to see if that helps.
It should be a simple as right-clicking the installer or setup.exe and choosing "Run as Administrator" from the context menu. You might want to look into using the free LAME encoder, which many believe is superior. http://forum.cakewalk.com/Sonar-Platinum-mp3-export-m3405523.aspx http://forum.cakewalk.com/Unlocking-mp3-Encoder-m3469109.aspx
I ran as administrator.....didn't work lol; was beyond frustrated and gave in and purchased new ENCODER activation....that finally worked.....YEAHHHHH! I noticed on the string of my old cakewalk encoder file that it said "last modified in 2004"....I was thinking that that could not be correct and it could not have been that long since I purchased that encoder...but even still, that still does not explain why the original purchase is not showing on my Cake acct because my old SONAR 3 is still showing....that had to have been when I was running SONAR 3 I believe....could have sworn it was more like around 5-7yrs ago when I was maybe running SONAR 8.5 or some version around there. Question though, when you referenced that many feel that the LAME encoder is superior to the Cakewalk encoder are users referencing "better" as in quality or functionality or both????? Because I might still go ahead and obtain that one also when I have more time because I though I read a post insinuating that there are some lines of code that you have to input to get that one to function with SONAR. But thanks again for all your help!!!!!

You mentioned multiple email accounts in post #10. That could have something to do with it. They can reconcile your account if you contact Cakewalk support and give them all your email addresses. Coolwatersmusic Question though, when you referenced that many feel that the LAME encoder is superior to the Cakewalk encoder are users referencing "better" as in quality or functionality or both?????
Quality, but it's probably not enough difference to worry about. Here a couple more links: http://www.richardfarrar.com/which-is-the-best-mp3-encoder-for-podcasts https://www.xaprb.com/blog/2016/02/21/best-itunes-mp3-format Also, LAME is well documented and there are plenty of utilities that work with it.
