a couple more newbie questions

Hopefully this will be my last question post for a while since almost all of my other noob problems have been fixed. The first question is why there is very little sustain on GTP3, or is it my interface or something else? A lot of times I hear the note ring out on my guitar, but it dies out quickly on GTP3 and only lasts a very short while. I would like to have good sustain. Also, (this isn't very specific) I was wondering how I get that "studio/CD" quality to the audio. I have recorded a couple of my songs, but the mix does not sound like many of the things I have heard on this site. This might have somethin to do with me not being completely sure of how compressors, limiters, eq's, etc. work, but I was wonderin if some1 could tell me how these work and how to get that studio quality, and also about the sustain problem. Thank you in advance.

Setup:
Windows XP
GTP3
M-Audio Fast Track USB External Interface
Ibanez SA220 Electric guitar

O yea and last thing I was wonderin if I could plug my guitar first into one of my pedals (like my crybaby) and then into the interface and would I be able to use that wah pedal to manually control the sound instead of usin the programs wah? Thanks a lot.

not familiar with your interface, but check to see if there is a line input level, where you can control the input gain. Keep it just under clipping level to get the maximum sustain out of your guitar.

also, yes any pedal chains will be picked up by the interface, since all it is doing is recording whatever signal it gets, so the wah should be no problem.

    1. Check out the link posted in this forum by redderman.

    2. This is the Cakewalk "Guitar Tracks" forum. The Cakewalk "Techniques" forum (and also the Cakewalk "Sonar" forum) has gobs of info on how to use EQ, compression, reverb, panning, etc. to get a better sounding mix. I particularly recommend searching for info posted by Chaz (Charles Smithhisler) from Florida. He does this for a living and dispenses great advice.
