In general, menus allow me to verify the operation I'm about to perform.  Keyboard shortcuts don't allow for that.

Am I the only one who thinks that the right-click menu in Track View (when clicking on a clip) is in a need of a complete overhaul?
Why copy/cut/paste/delete, all the options that should be the most accessible are hidden in a sub-menu, yet the Split option is in the main one, but in a different section?
Wouldn't it be better to have copy/cut/paste/delete/split in one segment, on the very top of the menu? Surely these options are used way more than let's say "Unlink Step Sequencer Clips".

keyboard shortcuts are all good until I have my bass guitar on my lap and start recording. Then I need my left hand to support the bass when I'm quickly editing.

Quickly editing ? While recording ?
There's your problem right there

I agree. I would only ever be sitting in front of a computer holding a guitar if I was recording it, not editing it. I use both hands for editing.

What about keyboard players. Aren't we allowed to play and edit because we can't use right or left click menus without taking fingers off the keyboard.
Don't think it's much of an argument.

+2 - FWIW (IMO) there shouldn't be a "right" way (Cakewalk way?). Ideally a user should be able to logically get a workflow going that incorporates shortcut keys, or mouse clicks or touch for that matter, or combinations as needed. SONAR as it is currently implemented seems to expect the user to follow its RULES. Some semblance that it is tailorable to an individual user's preferences would be welcome. FWIW I whined about half baked touch implementation in the past which is a personal pet peeve of mine. The right mouse click menu option would ideally be customizable (as in the past) or as a minimum follow windows conventions/practices.
