I dont know what addictive drums is. I have a yamaha rx5 that has 16 pads. I want to write beats using PRV and not have to click each note to see what sound it makes. Tok many notes.

The drum map manager is a nightmare to figure out. Cant find a ready made drum map file for yamaha rx5 and creating one from scratch looks like torture. And even if i entered every single hit, it is specific to a midi channel? So if i change to channel 10 for my rx5 instead of channel 1, then the map wont work?

Wish i could just right click and relabel the keys in PRV.

I bought sonar but im ready to abandon ship.

May I ask why you are using the Rx5 ?
I have the Rx 5 myself, and the SR 16 made by Alesis and those drum sounds are petty compared to samples today. I would use session drummer or Addictive drums. Im fond of the old Yamaha sounds too but they are a little dated and fake sounding compared to the real life samples that come shipped with Sonars session drummer and Addictive drummer. (bit wise there not even close). You can do it all in the box and not only will it be easier, it will sound more realistic.

Don't give up man. It takes perseverance and dedication. It a learning curve well worth it.

I hear you.. i bought the cheap version of sonar x3 im not sure if it has those sounds or features.

i have other drum machines too and use a sampler and not interested in realistic sounds, necessarily. I like the individual outs for each sound going from rx5 or the roland machines into the big mixer, stuff like that. Im a hardware weirdo :) rx5 has some cool voice vs pitch features and i like the sounds it makes for regular drums, even if they are old style.

So to made an ad-hoc label set on a PRV key would be extremely helpful.

I found a tutorial video i will see if it helps any, ill report back.

Also, i have used cakewalk for probably 20 years and always used staff view, sick of the interface and need to get PRV to work for me or its off to fruity loops.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, on a regular midi track I do VIEW - Paino Roll View, and use the pencil, every note it drops lands on beat 2, even when I click anywhere else in the time line.

You need to either turn Snap to Grid off or set it to something other than Measure, like a 1/4 note or 1/8 note

See that little blue grid at the top right of the prv? That's where you can set your Snap  settings
