After spending around a week trying to learn the most basic piece (twinkle twinkle little star) and getting nowhere I gave up. I dont understand why I find the piano so simple and effortless yet I struggled so much with the guitar.

Maybe you should try the alphabet song instead?
I wont be trying anything again on anything other than piano or percussion. I could play all the easy pieces and scales on keyboards at age 4+ naturally and effortlessly. An instrument taking too much effort is just wrong to me when I have natural musical flow and can sit down on a piano and play anything with minimal practice by ear. Or could until I ruined a wrist.
