[Solved] I hate Command center for 2 reasons and Sonar for another huge one...
1) It only allows you to install to the C drive. This is going to render my 'beefy' laptop with a 128mb SSD C drive and a 1TB D drive quickly unusable. 2) The background 'while you wait' functions don't work on my 4K TV/Monitor. The videos are blown up so I only see a tiny corner of the upper left video. Crazy.... Re. Sonar... I basically went to 4K to increase my Sonar real estate. And then I find out Sonar does some weird pixel mapping with 4K and the real estate is even worse than in regular 1920X1080. Someone tell me there's a fix for this!!! Peace, Ian

If you choose to run the installation of any of the programs with the Verbose option checked you will get options per installer that you don't get from the default CCC settings. Like where to install programs.

Hey there, I can help with your first problem: Seems like Cakewalk uses the Windows standard installation path, which is usually C:\program file or c:\program files (x86). Use regedit and navigate to this path: Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion There are two values: ProgramFilesDir and ProgramFilesDir (x86). There you can specify the installation path you wish. But always keep in mind to have a current backup of you files and/or system state. Registry can be a b*** XD Quick how to: 1. Hit your Windows key and type "regedit". 2. Right-click on regedit, shown in the search results, and select "Run as Administrator" 3. Navigate to the path shown above 4. Double-click on the item ProgramFilesDir change the value and hit OK. Do the same on ProgramFilesDir (x86). 5. Close regedit, done Unfortunately it doesn´t have any effect on already installed software. You therefore ahve to reinstall it.

Pretty sure you can change the download directory without hacking the registry. I placed my vst folder and cakewalk downloads into their own directory. Also you don't need to keep every download after a few updates.

Yes, there is an option in Cakewalk Command Center to change the directory for Download and VST but I think Ian is talking about the installation path. Also, I thought it´s a good idea to change the programm installation path on his machine permanently, since there is not much space on his ssd at all. ;-)

Make sure you don't have display scaling enabled in Windows. . . I had an issue where Command Center was screwed up, the text was all too big and the movies were too big as well and it's because I had scaling enabled in Windows.

In CC click on option (Gear wheel icon) and then 'paths' option. {EDIT} oops, sorry, it seems it is not what you wanted

I run SONAR on a 4K display without any problems. Don't let Windows "scale" the display to anything other 100%

Since we're boasting about the size of our resolutions, I have the short straw with a measly 1920x1080.

You can download the files and install them off line anywhere you want as far as I can tell. You don't need to use CCC. I have a 128 GB SSD on my laptop and it's not been a problem. I have both Home Studio and SPlat with a lot of other stuff installed and I'm at 66 GB. I even have a couple of Sample libraries. I just keep it cleaned out of anything I don't need and all files are backed up to an External drive. The big hog is the CCC download folder. Copy everything to an external and delete the files afterwards. There 20 GB alone.

I'm not liking that you have to 'work around' command center but I appreciate the regedit workaround. I don't think I want to do that yet, but may consider it. Thanks so much for the scaling info. That, at least, solves one of my gripes. Thanks guys. It's much appreciated. Peace, Ian

Another option is to link the directory of your choosing. I am copying scook's response to my question about this also found here: http://forum.cakewalk.com/A-reminder-to-clean-up-your-Command-Center-download-folder-m3435314.aspx scook Yes, I got a PM about it so I will post my reply with the steps here. The name of the new location could be any valid path. In this example I am assuming the default location of "C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Command Center\Downloads" and a new location of "D:\Cakewalk\Command Center\Downloads" FYI, ProgramData is a hidden directory. 1. Create the new location "D:\Cakewalk\Command Center\Downloads" 2. Move the contents from "C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Command Center\Downloads" to "D:\Cakewalk\Command Center\Downloads" 3. Delete "C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Command Center\Downloads" 4. run cmd.exe as administrator 5. type mklink /j "C:\ProgramData\Cakewalk\Command Center\Downloads" "D:\Cakewalk\Command Center\Downloads"
Hope this helps.

I like the directory link solution and will use that. OK, Thanks guys. Both my questions have been solved. This forum really is superb. It's great to see the Sonar community is still strong! Ian
