I'm intrigued by the C1. I've started a new thread on Softube's C1 Console here.

Upgrading Melodyne Essential (included with Platinum) to Melodyne Studio, the full monty.

^^ plus 1. If you are working with vocals, and let's face it, they are the most important element of a song by far to the casual listener, then Studio is a great investment. So much more you can do to improve vocals in a natural way.

Sylvan,

I think you still need the UAD hardware to run the UAD plugs, but the console emulation runs on your cpu. Others may know better.

Looking forward to that video! Well, thanks guys. Now I have to budget for a Console 1...ha ha ha.

Let me ask this to be clear: Are you saying that the Console 1 also allows you to use UAD plugins without needing to buy their (UAD) hardware?

You still need the HW to use UAD plugins. Nothing has changed in that regard. It still runs on the UAD processor(s).
They've just included (some, and more to come) UAD plugins into their Console 1 / workflow.

Hello everyone. After reading some of the comments in this thread about the Console 1 I decided to order it. I have it up and running and going through some of the presets. Great addition to my humble setup. For me there will be a learning curve but I am really looking forward to using it.

Thanks guys

I hope you will be as pleased with it as I Am
On my end, the learning curve was shorter than anticipated. It just felt more and more natural to use.
Best of luck.

Re: Best things I have added to enhance Sonar 2017/06/19 23:00:54 (permalink)
I just found this free vst plug-in within the last week that's made a huge difference for piano dynamics:

http://www.codefn42.com/veloscaler/index.html

Before, I could not get a velocity above 100 on either my Yamaha CP33 or Casio Privia PX5S without banging on the keys and hurting my fingers.  I was missing out on the full dynamic range of all my sample libraries.  I was ready to invest in an expensive keyboard with better velocity response.  Then I found this plug-in-- now I can get subtle and bright sounds within my playing I could not get before.
I have to set up a cakewalk project for each of my instruments instead of using the stand alone version.  That's so I can add the VeloScaler as a vsti instrument that feeds it's midi signal to the input of the midi instrument I want to play.  The VeloScaler is divided into 5 bands you can use to divide the 0 - 127 velocity range into different scaled regions.  One of my presets has band 1 (0 - 35) scaled at zero percent for quiet notes.  Band 2 (36 - 50) is scaled at 10%.  Band 3 (51 -75) is scaled at 20%.  Band 4 (76 -100) is scaled at 32%.  Band 5 (101 - 127) is scaled at 45%.  This is just one of my presets.  I have some scaled less extreme and some more extreme, depending on what the vsti instrument needs for better response.
This is the best addition to my Sonar setup in recent months because it keeps me from purchasing expensive equipment and solves the dynamics problem I've had for a long time.  I hope this helps someone.

I just found this free vst plug-in within the last week that's made a huge difference for piano dynamics:

When I need such thing, I use my own: http://www.azslow.com/index.php/topic,275.0.html
a) Sonar does not support MIDI processing in VST format directly, so all that routing problems, especially to "bounce" the processing. DX MFXes are supported natively (exactly like VST MFX should be), so in Live/Clip FX/Bounce modes.
b) MIDI IN : 1-127, MIDI OUT : 1-127. So an possible "scaling" is mapping value X to value Y in 1-127 range. I prefer strait way to just directly click/draw on Y I need for particular X.

I have yet another general MFX processor in DX format, that one is able to do any kind of MIDI acrobatics with incoming signal. But it requires "programming" in Lua (normally just several code lines, but still).

For some reason other Sonar users prefer different approaches. May be I do not understand something

Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol keyboard. Since I have Komplete and use NI plugins for about 98% of my softsynth needs, it was a no brainer really. It can also function in normal MIDI mode at the touch of a button, so I can still use it for ACT control of mixer channels. In some other hosts it can also be used for navigating the track view, autofocusing on the selected track, arming for record, etc.  It'd be great if Sonar added support for those functions too!

I would put the ARC that came with my RME Ucx high on the list (I use it for basically the same as you use yours ), so I will not dis, or disagree

Console 1 - it is so nice to be able to use both visual and auditory cues in cutting/boosting eqs.  And the plethora of knobs!!!  And the inclusion of compatibility with many of the UAD plugs.  This is so much more refined than automap or Act or any other thingy that helps control Sonar.

This is so strange. Until recently, I had never heard of this, then I saw a release ad for their updated version and now I'm finding people talking about Console 1 all over the place.

I have had mine for almost a year (I think), and like it more and more (still ).
I have been saying it wherever possible
The integration with (SONAR) UAD, and the release of the Mk II (lower price), has made it reach a larger audience.
It's finally getting the praise it deserves
All the best.

I used a Level pilot for a couple years. It's a good choice for a first for an introduction in monitor control.
I'm using a Mackie big knob now though. I made this move about 4 months ago.
Im very happy with the Big knob. I love the options on the BK vs. the level pilots 1 knob.
