Yeah, the black blues artists from the south were overrated too...

(Maybe you just need to watch some documentaries on where the music of the last 30+ years comes from.)

L & M also wrote a whole bunch of stuff for other bands back in the 60's, didn't they?

Several songs yes, but a whole bunch may be pushing it a bit far.

If you read my original post you'll see that it wasn't about being a fan. The more I learn about song writing and composition, the more I admire the quality of their collective work. And let's not forget what they and George Martin did with a 4 track studio. They were pioneers. IF you think they're over-rated, then have the stones to post some of your own work as a comparison. Show me how you've left the frigging Beatles in the dust with your master work.

Regards, John

I would never say that, personally. I just wasn't a massive fan at the time. I do have one Beatles album in my collection... Revolver.

To say that The Beatles were not greatness is like saying that Leo Fender and Les Paul had no influence on the guitar industry.

The 'Wings' thing was a joke, lifted from Alan Partridge. Personally, I don't really mind if I never hear the Beatles again. I appreciate everything they did, but enough is enough. There are far more interesting bands to listen to these days. Move on....

the beatles are on of the most overrated bands of all time imo.

Were you around when they came out?  TOTALLY different era.  I believe if they came out now, the same accolades would not apply.

no i wasnt, i just dont see how they have stood the test of time when they really werent that great but that of course is just my opinion.

I hope I'm around in 40 years when some (born 5 years from now) dude says <insert ljb500's biggest 21st century musical influence/life changer here> really wasn't that great.

Oh the humanity of it all.

Then I will Strummage up this post.

Haha, they will be more than welcome to their opinion and you can feel free to bring this post back up at such a time.

To me, the Beatles are in their own category.  It's amazing not only how many good songs they wrote, but how many GREAT songs they wrote.  Another thing that impressed me was how little they repeated themselves.  Nothing on Rubber Soul sounds like anything on Revolver, which doesn't sound like anything on Pepper etc.  It was six years of sustained genius.

You haven't lived until you've taken the Rorschach.

I think their experience in Germany made them really able to do almost anything...I love the Beatles, too...more than Zeppelin...As a matter of fact, I think Lennon could have done lead vocals for Zeppelin...And it would have been awesome...You're right, the Beatles broke big ground, and when they went solo, they kept the high standards

How can a band that had such an enormous influence on pop & rock music possibly be overrated?

Even aside from the actual music, they completely changed the business. The Beatles made it not only common, but EXPECTED that bands would write their own material.

Maybe they should have been dubbed "the Fad Four"?
