How to make a proper Waves Vocal Rider setup in sonar ?
Hello All, I am actualy trying to use Waves Vocal Rider on my Sonar Platinum projetcs but i am not sure i use it the right way. Here is what i do : - I put a mono vocal rider on my vocal track, just before the compressor. - I insert a Send on my " instrumental bus " (This bus has everything but vocals) then in the send destination list i chose my mono vocal rider inserted on my vocal track. - On the vocal rider UI, the "music light" becomes green (indicating the plug in receive the music signal) Then i hear cracks and pops, the sound disapear and sonar crashes. What do you think ? Is there a more acurate way to set it up ? Thanks in advance.

Hi. Try upping your latency buffer. All the best.

Waves Vocal Rider uses lookahead functionality, (and needs extra time) IIRC.

I use that plug in a lot - we have a very dynamic, very powerful singer in the band. I can vouch that the effect plays well in my system configuration. I DO up buffers during the mix process every time - its just natural for me. There's an automation feature to write the fader moves it creates, but I haven't tried it in a long time. You can write the moves, and turn it off. I use a compressor before (CA2A) taking off say 3 or so db, the V Rider, then another CA2A after. I kind of like the little bit at a time method. LL

Make sure you use the stereo version... or all tracks will be in mono...

Thanks 11Dreams ! So, if i understood well : - Your " vox " track (containing vocal clips) OUT goes to " Vox Rider " Bus. (stereo vocal rider is inserted on this bus) - The " MUSIC " bus OUT goes to the main stereo master bus labeled " Stereo Out ". - On the " MUSIC " bus, there is a send that goes directly to the Vocal Rider PLUGIN which is inserted on the " Vox Rider " bus. - The " Vox Rider " bus OUT goes to the main stereo master bus labeled " Stereo Out ". Tell me if i'm wrong but i think using this method, the rider will ride the whole processed vocal track thus processing reverb and delay tails ?

My understanding of this is that the best way to use this plugin is to have it write the automation to your track and then go back and manually tweak the curve instead of using it in real time.

I place it in the Fx portion of the Vocal track. Does the deed for me. My Vox track Output is sent to a BUS for effects. The layout above seems pretty complex. You could send Vox Output to a Vocal Rider Bus, then send the Vocal Rider Bus to an AUX track, then record the send to the Aux (mute original vocal track). Rout the Aux Output to a Vocal Buss with effects.

I just use it on the track I want it on, no side-chaining or anything like that.
I tend to put it after compression, otherwise the compresser will be undoing some or all of what Vocal Rider is doing.
