After a reboot, the device started bouncing between 'paired' and 'connected', an update to the Bluetooth driver fixed this. It now stays on 'connected'. I Sonar instrcustruction says when the Bluetooth device is paired, set the Midi Driver to UWP, and then select in ins and outs in Midi Devices in Preferences. When I do this, Sonar Hangs. When I re-open Sonar my soundcard drops off. I thought maybe my Roland Quad's midi device didn't like the drivers to be set to UWP. I went to Windows Device manager and disabled my Roland Quad-Captures MIDI in and out. There were showing at the same time as theBluetooth Midi in Preferences>Midi>Devices, but as soon as a applied Sonar hangs.

I rebooted, and checked the Rolands Midi ins and outs were still disable in Windows Devices, then opened Sonar. Checked Preferences>MIDI> and the roland was showing (No MD-BT01) When I set the driver to UWP in Sonar, and checked MIDI>Devices, now only the MD-BT01 showed. But when I select and apply, it still hangs.

    Any suggestions?

I don't  know if it is the QuadCapture's Midi conflicting, but I have two midi controllers and one is USB and the other my wind controller of standard Midi. It normally goes through the QuadCapture, but If I can get the Bluetooth to work, I don't need to use the Quad Captures Midi at all.

Diconnected the soundcard altogether, rebooted and still hangs when I set the MD-BT01 as the only input

Not sure but does the device need to be BTLE 4.2. I think that’s the designation of the Bluetooth version.

I remember when I added my Waves NX headphone gadget I need to get an external Bluetooth dongle low energy version 4.2. I may be way off the mark but that all I can think of.

I'm wondering if it should be Paired and not Connected. I dn't know the distinction.

Seems the device is fine, according to this reply. http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3598859

He's using the same WX5 as me too. This isn't a must have, but if I can get it t work and get it stable, I had planned on stripping the case off the MD-BT01 and hardwiring it inside my WX5, and running from batteries. A nice little dream setup
