Mixcraft is still a bit behind in MIDI, for example no way to do a gradual (smooth) tempo change. Or no Event viewer if you need to get into nitty-gritty of MIDI. Plus the GUI needs some "refinement". Still, I would happily recommend it to the hobbyist who doesn't need all the bloat/power features you see in sPlat and Cubase Pro.

Trying it out tonight. So far it's pretty slick but not sure if I can beat the Sunday night $99 deal deadline. Someone said the GUI was kinda cartoonish. Nicely, all the GUI files are in a folder (mixrez) and can be repainted like Sonar's. So custom themes can be made for it. Has Multidock style views. Big + is the Docked views can be displayed on a separate monitor. Clips have their own play, mute, loop buttons. Very handy for editing. MIDI editing is probably not up to Sonar but I haven't got that far yet. Has cool MIDI Learn button for setting up your controller. Just did mine (transport only controller) and couldn't have been easier. The missing Stop button means I have to use the controller's Play button for Play & Pause. No RTZ button either. A CON is the Time Ruler only displays Beats or Time, not both. Worse yet it affects both the Ruler and the Now Time. I like to have them showing opposite stats. Only glitch I'm noticing so far is the softsynths tend to freeze up while playing them with the QWERTY keys. When played with a controller the latency is very noticeable. Haven't seen how to adjust that if you can.

Sweetwater sale just ended @midnight. Went to JRRSHOP and got it for $84.15. $99 - $14.85. MF still had it for $99 when bought it. Waiting for manually generated download license. 14 days left on demo so no hurry.

Ken Matson I know a lot of people are attracted by the claims of a small, software-only company, but to me that's very scary now after what just happened. I want something backed by some deeper pockets who don't have all their eggs in one basket.
You mean, you'd be happier if they were backed by a big established company like say, Gibson? 🤤

I don't know if this is the proper place, but the drivers page is kinda confusing w/ Core and ASIO, soens. The ASIO didn't have anything in its slot so I was working w/ Core at first, but the latency was 20 ms. When I finally hit the blank drop down menu on ASIO all my interface drivers were available. And I don't know how good the latency read out is (roundtrip?), but SONAR's 8 ms with my TASCAM UH-7000 dropped to 1.5 ms in Mixcraft. And there was no noticeable delay with soft synths. Sometimes, learning a new DAW is fun.

I have better latency figures on my Scarlett 18i20 with Mixcraft.

bitflipper I, too, was quite impressed by Mixcraft. In my mind, it had been a dumbed-down DAW for singer-songwriters. But that was based on a long-ago quick look, now outdated. So many great features now. I feel like I could slip into it effortlessly, probably more so than any other DAW. Having an Android app for remote transport control is a plus, since I've yet to replace my beloved Tranzport that died with Windows 7. Presonus has an app, too, but only for iOS. I'm not going to by an iPad for that. Don't know about video, though.
My tranZport works fine with Windows 10 and sonar. It is also working with Studio One now. Just FYI. Also the studio one remote app works pretty good although it's awful tiny on my phone.
My Frontier Design Tranzport works just fine in Mixcraft. (and W10) In fact, Acoustica specifically mentions support for it in Mixcraft 8.

Now that is good news! But I didn't think it was ever a DAW issue, rather a Win10 problem. When I first went to 10 I was told by some folks, e.g. fireberd, that it was working for them. Alas, I was never able to cajole or threaten it into compliance. Might have to give it another go. Not today, though. Today I am enjoying my new 34" widescreen monitor that just arrived. Woo hoo! Nearly three-foot wide track views! Still waiting for the dual monitor arm that'll let me mount the old twin 22" monitors above it. Gonna be awesome. If I position it just right, I'll be able to put lyrics up on one of them that'll be visible from the vocal booth. Plus I'm really enjoying SONAR anew with all this screen real estate. Mixcraft looks pretty good on it, too.

I beleieve you are somehow not reading your Latency figures corectly. The DAW has nothing to do with this,, Example I have 4 DAWs loaded right now and all of them show the exact same RTL figure. They would have to. Some just say it differently. The RTL figure only changes when you change the buffer in your interfaces conrtol panel. Or is you change to a different clock rate, the higher the clock rate the better the performance. You can also ue a utility which always seemed to match Sonars report exactly for most of us. http://www.oblique-audio.com/free/rtlutility But those figures are determined by the Drivers. You'll even get the same readings no matter what the computer specs or OS. The only differance is a underpowered computer won't run smoothly at low buffer settings.

I'm in my first half hour with The Mixcraft demo, and I find I can't play any MIDI instrument (so far) because the monitoring latency is too high (so far). I'm hoping I can figure out how to adjust this. I'm using a Scarlett 6i6 and had no problem with latency in SONAR or Studio One. EDIT: It's OK now. Mixcraft defaults to Core Audio (WaveRT) in the interface settings. Changed to ASIO. Much better. I'm not sure this can be my main DAW, but I like to make music videos, so I have to keep it in mind for that. EDIT #2: I have no problem with how it looks, although I will admit the wood-look side rails on the mixer are pretty cheezy.

I am enjoying the demo, most vst and vsti loaded, was able to record VSTi and waves...straight forward. The sends taken awhile to launch, multiple sends are cool. The interface is different, I like that the scrolling wheel can expand or retract the horizontal, slick. The vertical scrolling of the mixer is easier than Sonar, however, when the Sonars X series came, that graphic docking it was a strong work flow plus, for me Grouping VST or VSTi taken awhile to grasp ...especially when the list is over 200, UAD throw everything in, I only have a few. I did state I will hold onto Sonar, long time user. I will say compared to studio one, I was up and running easier. Surprisingly some of Mix Craft effects are sweet

So far everything I've tried in Mixcraft has been a breeze. Except one: there seems to be no way to edit multiple MIDI tracks at once. I'm holding out hope that I've just missed something, because that would be a showstopper. If somebody's figure that out, please let me know. This got my hopes up, but no cigar...

Yeah, in the video, you'd think if he'd scroll down in the MIDI editor, you'd see the second track's MIDI data...

Mixcraft does not allow you to zoom down to sample level yet. That is crucial to properly place in drum samples over top of live drums. I've asked for it several times over the last few years, but the developers don't seem to have that improvement on their radar. I can still use slate trigger or melodyne to convert drum hits to midi, but I though it was worth mentioning to those who are thinking of switching.

I downloaded it last night as a purchase. I'm glad I did. I believe it might be a keeper for fast audio simple synth track work. Might be better for much more, but right now I'm viewing it as a great way to assemble music which I might then, move into something else for final master. The asking price during the sale is a real bargain. My advice: Buy at least a few daws with different strengths. These year end deals are a good way to jump into a few for less.

Also with Mixcraft there isn't a tool that will let you edit audio across multiple tracks like Audio Snap. You can place edit markers and adjust a single audio track at a time, but you cant lock them together and slide entire groups of audio (think multi track drum editing).

Sorry, I think I did not express that well. With my machine I am getting nowhere near 1.5 ms. What I should have typed was--- My Scarlett 18i20 shows better latency figures in Mixcraft than it did running in Sonar. Excuse the inaccuracy.

It was answered in (yet) another thread that Mixcraft (which I like so far) does not allow this. You can only see the one MIDI track at a time. That was the answer by aconte22.
