Should I just carry on , business as usual?

Hi , not a professional just a retired long time user. Can anyone help
My Computer only connects to the internet when I upgrade to the next version and runs very little else.
Currently says I own the software Valid through 25/12/37 version 2017.09 (until I'm 83!)
  • Should I be able to use SPLAT as it stands until I need a new computer or reinstall?
  • Should I do one last upgrade to 2017.10?
  • I can stop Windows 10 from upgrading
  • If my Octacapture need replacing I could have an issue
Any help for a novice who loves Sonar and Does not relish a new learning curve.

My sympathy goes out to the great Cakewalk staff , I hope their skills will keep them in employment.
Eric

Run the CCC and make sure everything's up to date, then find the installation files and back them up.

Also make sure you've installed everything you're entitled to. I hadn't installed the new loop libraries 'cause I'm not a loop guy, but I figure get 'em now while you can.

Despite the aura of panic around here, you are actually pretty safe keepin' on keepin' on.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I'm kind of thinking along the same lines as you are. What if? You sound like me, or by that I mean you have a lot of money invested in this software and company. And while I mention what I have some people might say "Well that's not that much", but to me it truly is, and money isn't easy for me to come by so what I have took some work to be able to purchase.

Check out my thread about Activation, I think we are asking the same thing, or something like that.

Thanks for that Bobby. Yes I have over the years invested money for what is just a hobby for me , but there's more
Time taken to learn , I still struggle to fit time in to learn new bits , Octacapture templates, standard pro channel settings and effects that I have , keyboard .ins files etc, folders of Craig's SOS articles. The time it will take to get onboard a new solution really scares me.

Thank

Ric

I too have a lot of money invested and time as well just to learn it as well. It still seems like I have just barley scratched the surface on what it can do. Where might be the installation files be located?

I'm just downloading now and have file manager search for files created today and so far
it is C\program data\cakewalk\command centre Eg bigfishaudio_country_1.0.0.3
Hope they don't get deleted at the end of this install!!

I will, as you say, carry on with business as usual. For the following reasons.

1. Like yourself I am older (65) and no longer a professional player. It is all for fun and self satisfaction.

2. Sonar should run for a long time without problems. Make sure you have all pertinent files downloaded and duplicated. If one source becomes unavailable for whatever reason you will have a duplicate copy.

3. I understand that professionals need another viable platform to continue their business. However for us non professionals their is no rush. Every year there will be Black Friday and Boxing Day sales and we can, when we want, buy an alternate DAW at a good price.

4. For me to search for, and buy a new DAW before there is certainty about Sonar's future seems premature. Who knows, some company may buy it and continue its development. I think the chances of this are slim, but it could happen.

I started a thread to find out how many of us are staying with Sonar, its 5 pages long and growing. Lots of good tips on how the survive the future.

You don't have to use Command centre to download the files. It's faster to just go to your Products page and download the files directly. Then you can store them properly instead of being hidden in the CCC download folder. And make sure to copy and paste or screenshot all the serial numbers from there as well.

2017-10 works as well for me as any other and I'm not seeing any issues with Windows 10 up to date.

For context, I'm not using Sonar as much as I did.

I am the opposite in terms of usage , just started the first (holiday!) project for ages. Just thought I'd see if anyone else was having problems , Thanks

As a hobbyist I'm always amused when another hobbyist says they've "invested" money in their hobby.

I have not invested a dime in my hobby. I have however spent thousands.

The definition of invest: to put (money) to use, by purchase or expenditure, in something offering potential profitable returns, as interest, income, or appreciation in value.

As I said, I've spent thousands over the years. Never consider it an investment.

And to Eric- the metronome issue is  common and the fix I do believe is to toggle your Global effects on and off. Stupid, but one of those little quirks we will obviously learn to live with.

Ya Ed, I don't think my wife would call it an investment! Mind you I do make money using my backing tracks. My original music I have to pay people to listen to it :) We give the CD's away.
