Here's some perspective. I learned to use sequencers with hardware units. Then I bought a computer and bought a program called Cakewalk and learned to sequence in that. Although I've learned and used a few other platforms while working in friends studios over the years, Cakewalk and everything it developed into is what I've used for my own work since I've been using computers to make music.

Same here.  Before I owned my first computer in the late 90's, I bought an Alesis MMT-8 hardware sequencer.  http://www.vintagesynth.com/misc/mmt8.php

Cakewalk has been with me ever since.  But I have also learned other music programs over the years, so yes the loss stings, but I will carry on.  Sonar will remain on my drive as long as it works.  Along with Project 5.

DAW: CbB; Sonar Platinum, and others ...

I'll take the Playboy Mansion :)

Hef isn't there anymore, so now it's just... a mansion.  I'm also pretty sure the playmates aren't still lounging about.

It is what it is. My advice is if you record for a living or are a serious hobbyist start moving to some other DAW now. Several of the major DAW companies are offering outstanding deals for CW refugees. Reason I say this is because no matter how low, the risk of MS breaking CW is always a possibility and when you have paying clients it quickly escalate to a disaster. Plan now and get started learning another DAW before you might be forced to do so.

For a casual user, unless you want to save some serious money now and jump on something other than CW, why not milk it till it no longer works for you and then move on.

Lot of sad news these days. No fun in the mansion, Sonar lifetime pretty short . . . . and the therapist is on vacation. OMG !! :) :)
