Is there any news from "Gibson Cakewalk" regarding the Servers?
What happens to my account? At this time, our servers and website will remain active. You will be able to utilize your software without interruption, and will have access to your account and products as normal. But what if the servers do go down? If or when the servers are taken down, we will make sure you have a way to authorize your products without using any of our current online authorization steps. We're working on a mechanism for if this does occur, to ensure our users will not lose functionality moving forward. These statements still stand as far as I know and are Gibson's responsibility. Don't get me wrong, I am very excited with the DFKAS's future!!! Just need to cover all bases...

This topic has been gone over 1,000 time here. Sorry it might be hard to find. The servers are now owned by Bandlab and Sonar will carry on under a new company and name. Noel has stated over and over that the servers are not going anywhere.

Yes A lot of us think there should be just a locked sticky where all the news about what is happening is placed by Meng and Noel only. There are still a lot of folks out there who don't even know that Cakewalk has gone through this change.

FYI, for anyone else. There is no "Gibson activation" site. Activation is handled both by the application and the Cakewalk webside back end. BandLab have acquired all assets and that includes the website and back end. So nothing is going to happen to existing activation's during or after the transition to BandLab. If you choose the reinstall the software the same activation process with apply as before. If we choose to change how this is done in the future of course we're going to make sure that existing customers are not affected so there is no need for needless worry.

The link I posted was not in an announcement thread. I expect staff leave threads open for a reason. They have more privileges than hosts on this forum. If they ask I am sure a host will lock them upon request.

mister happy I prefer the option to authorize my "Cakewalk" install without having to connect to a "Bandlab" server. I am hoping that there will be one last update for legacy "Cakewalk" customers that allows for 1 step offline serial number authorization.

Sorry that won't happen. Once again if you follow what has been said. First there can be no magic activation code for the currant version of Sonar. The way it is activated is built in to the software code. Nobody is going to release another version of "Cakewalk Sonar" that would be needed to change the way it is activated. That activation requires the server, The server is not going anywhere, end of story. The " New DAW " based on Sonar will have a new name and a new web site and a new everything.

mister happy When Noel Borthwick PM'd Wookie and explained that "if the Cake servers are to be shutdown all legal owners will be issued with a file that will allow for authorisation on new installs or reinstall's." it certainly seemed like authorization without a online server is technically possible.
Your assumption seems to be that because the Cake servers are switching over to Bandlab servers, that constitutes a shutdown, meaning we will still get our permanent activations. However, since Cake is being taken over by Bandlab, they may not see it the same way. Technically, there hasn't been a shutdown, just a change of name, so no reason to provide a one-off activation. (I'm not speaking from any authority here, just playing devil's advocate). So from what I can tell, that question is still up in the air.....

Why are people so concerned now. Sonar has a new benefactor and we've been told authorizations will remain intact one way or another. What more is needed to be said on this? We should just get on making music and see where Bandlab decides to take the product
