Help With Metronome Please
Seems such a simple thing. Go to metronome settings, choose an audio output, apply and you should be good to go. I cannot get my metronome to play in my Platinum program. I have tried every possible output port that is available, to no avail. Any ideas? Thanks Van

Make sure SONAR is seeing the folder where the audio metronome beats (wave files) are stored. The Metronome folder should be in Cakewalk Content, as defined in Preferences>Folder Options. If it's not there, you might try a search for (say) "Sidestick 2.wav." If you find it, determine where it is and add that folder to your Cakewalk Content folder. If you can't find it, you might reinstall SONAR (with that folder defined as you want it) and see if it appears.

For Platinum, the audio metronome files are in %appdata%\Cakewalk\SONAR Platinum\Metronome If the files are not there, they may be restored by holding down the SHIFT key while starting SONAR.

Try toggling(turning off/on) the FX over ride button in the control bar. If I remember correctly there has been a bug which silences the metronome.

Yes - it could be something as simple as toggling on and off the audio engine

Is it on? Set to 'during recording', or 'playback', or both?

Most likely what Greg said. The buttons for metronome playback are located next to the time window in the Control Bar when the Transport tool is set to large. Otherwise you will have to check the appropriate box(es) under the Metronome Preferences. Kind regards, tecknot

To All, Thank you for your suggestions. I was hoping Chuck's idea of toggling back and forth would work based on what appears to have worked with others that have had the same problem. I turned on the metronome, played, nothing. Turned on and off the global FX override in the Mix Control Panel, still no sound. Turned on and off the Audio Engine, nothing. Looked at Cakewalk Content / Sonar Platinum / Metronome File that was located in the same directory as the rest of the Cakewalk files. Everything (eg all the sounds) appeared to be there. I went back on my same computer and called up my old Sonar Producer program, and an old file there. Metronome worked fine. Any other ideas? If you do, can you please be very elementary in describing step by step how to do what you are suggesting. Thanks for your time and efforts in trying to help me. Van

Van1 Looked at Cakewalk Content / Sonar Platinum / Metronome File that was located in the same directory as the rest of the Cakewalk files.
FWIW, the files in that folder are not used by SONAR.

Not sure what you are trying to tell me or help with my situation. They were where BRainbow said they were and appeared to be the logical file used by Platinum since it was in the same sub directory as all the other Platinum files. Sorry I do not understand your point. Thanks

I understand there is a duplicate set of files in Cakewalk Content but SONAR uses the metronome files in the path I provided above not the ones in Cakewalk Content. If they are not in your user directory use the process I posted to re-install the files or copy them from the Cakewalk Content folder.

Scook, Thank you for your help. I followed your instructions and went thru the following path: Program Files / Cakewalk / Sonar Platinum / Cakewalk User Data / Sonar Platinum / Metronome / WAV files (were there) I also did the SHIFT key while starting Sonar. Also after all that did the toggle FX and audio engine buttons again. Still no metronome when turning it on in either playback or record mode and tracks not muted. Appreciate your patience and help. OK I don't think this was mentioned. Is there a metronome buss? If not insert a new buss in the buss pane and name it metronome. Make sure it outputs to you interface or Master. Now go to the metronome dialog and make sure this is the output. Don't forget to click apply after making changes. I have no clue why toggling the effects bypass works but every time I have your issue, which has been many,, it has worked Note. I always do this ( toggle effects bypass) on my MASTER buss bin.

Further to Johnny's post, if the metronome is correctly routed to a bus, check the output of that bus (or just have it go out to the Master) and it's status (muted??). I would guess it's the metronome's bus output. Just a guess. Kind regards, tecknot

Cactus et al, Thank you for taking time for my problem. I did insert a buss track and put its output to Master. I have un-muted every track, done the FX over ride toggling and still no sound. I went back to my Sonar Producer and the metronome works fine. I upgraded to Platinum about 8 months ago and have never gotten the metronome to work there. When I need a metronome I have to go back to my Producer program. Cactus, just curious. You said put the output to Master, but your screen shot above shows output to Metronome?

Hey Van, what Catus is describing is creating a new bus called "Metronome" and them making sure that the new bus' output is sent to the Master or main output. While I am at it, what is the volume (dbs) setting for the Mtrnm beats? And what is the 'Record Count-in' in the upper left corner? Just giving it a shot. Kind regards, tecknot

Tecknot, Thank you for your explanation. Sorry for my ignorance, I don't know the difference between creating a new bus and naming it Metronome as you instruct, and what I did by going to "Insert" choosing "new stereo bus" and then naming that new bus Metronome and designating its output to Master? Appreciate your help. Van

Yeah, you got it. It's the way you would create a new bus and all, but Catus's picture is referring to the setting in the Metronome Preferences and not the metronome bus/track itself. As you may be aware, you can choose any bus or output available in the Mtrnm's Preferences and then from there you can choose any available output from within Mtrnm's bus output. So, under Preferences choose the Metronome bus and then in the actual Metronome bus/track's output choose the Master bus or route it to your preferred output (say like an alternate hardware output like the headphones if your hardware interface has such an output). Does that cover it? I just thought of something... If you are routing your Metronome Bus to the Master Bus, what is the output of the Master Bus? Kind regards, tecknot @dappa1 - what are you referring to? There's no problem in SONAR regarding the Metronome routing.

The Master Bus is usually routed to the first pair of hardware outputs. The basic template shipped with SONAR Platinum should have the Master, Preview and Metronome buses already defined.

Technot & scook, Thank you for your suggestions. FYI, there is not a metronome track already set up when I open the Basic Template in a new Platinum file. I inserted a bus, named it Metronome. In the metronome preferences I chose metronome. In the actual metronome bus/track output I chose Master. In the master bus output I chose and tried starting from the 1st one listed every output listed from Platinum reading my sound card's inputs and outputs. I also tried sending both the metronome and the master track's output to every ASIO output listed. As stated previously, I have tried toggling the FX. I just can't get Platinum's metronome to work. I have all tracks unmuted. Thank you for responding to my frustration. Van
