Is there a way to install just the 32 bit version of Cakewalk? (SOLVED)

Before this devolves into arguments over 64 bit being better than 32 bit........We have a lot of older projects, some dating back as far as 2001 that we need to access and it's in our best interests on some workstations to have just the 32 bit version so that all the older DX plug-ins load. Is there a way to install just the 32 bit version on a 64 bit machine of the new Cakewalk by Bandlab?

Cakewalk by BandLab is a 64-bit only application. Your projects themselves will open in 64-bit Cakewalk, but if you're accessing 32-bit only plugins, you will need to keep a 32-bit install of your previous version of SONAR.

When my whole world was 32 bit and I shuddered at the notion of reformatting and starting over, I wondered if and when you all would pull the trigger and release a SONAR update that was only 64 bit. Being able to ditch the shackles of building a 32 build "buried" in the events of the last 6 months must be nice turn of events. When I saw the casual note that there was only a 64bit version to obtain without any need to warn the installed base, I smiled.

Ok. To confirm: BitBridge or JBridge don't work in Bandlab version?

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

BitBridge is included in CbB but that does not help with 32bit DX plug-ins. If one has projects with 32 DX plug-ins they are stuck with running a 32bit DAW or swapping out the plug-ins so the project can run in a 64bit DAW. There is a way to load 32 DX plug-ins in a 64bit DAW using a DX-to-VST wrapper but it is far from perfect and does nothing for existing projects.

They seem to work fine on my 64 bit Cakewalk by Bandlab Version. In order for it to see, scan and add in all of my legacy 32 bit plugins and VST's I had to run Cakewalk by Bandlab "as Administrator" while the scan is done. Some plugins don't appear to work correctly unless it is run "as Administrator" when creating and editing a project. So I have found that I have to run it "as Administrator" all the time to save all the messing about.

Thanks for all the info guys. I will make a not of this and keep an older 32 bit version of SONAR  on these machines.

Old plug-ins sometimes want to access parts of the registry or drive that need elevated privileges. This is because OS security has changed after the plug-ins were written. The one example that was included with SONAR for years is Pentagon. While there is a 64bit version, it still uses part of the registry that was changed for Vista requiring administrator access. The fix in that case is modify the registry http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3319219

It may be possible to figure out what other plug-ins need using Sysinternals procmon. For example, here is what Pentagon looks like in procmon when it does not have rights to the registry (NOTE: the filter settings).

Access is denied for HKLM\SOFTWARE\rgc:audio Software\Dxi\Pentagon I

The lack of a 32 bit version causes me some issues too, so I won't be installing the "new" version until such time as I have to or there comes to be some other compelling reason to do so.

In the meantime I'm hoping that Meng will flog a few more of them pricey t-shirts and then reinstate a 32 bit option.

+1 here for a 32-bit version, because I'm still using a Yamaha SW1000XG; works great, but only has 32 bit drivers.

If anybody knows of an accurate softsynth equivalent, please speak up!

As a long-time SONAR x32 user, so far I've been pleasantly surprised. Cakewalk X64 is opening up all my projects and playing them flawlessly. Yes, I did have to go back to my download folder and re-install some of the bundles, this time selecting [x] 64 as well as [x] 32, but after that... no problems.

I can see that CWx64 is opening up 32-bit VSTs where necessary, but... it's all working!

I may have been turned into a 64-bit convert. Finally.
