why Taylor CE-814 sound better in midnight
This sounds a very very stupid question ... When I play my Taylor 814 guitar, it sounds beautiful during midnight. But I do not feel that during daytime. Weird One possible reason I can think of is that it is quiet during midnight when all people fall asleep except me practicing guitar. Any ideas? Thanks.

LOL ! Don't know but that's a good one. My Taylor 614LTD is moody also and does NOT like daytime. It likes to sleep late and jam all night long. Midnight it starts sounding fair but doesn't get that killer tone till about 2:00am must be the maple back and sides I should have got the brown wood one. Brown gutiars just have more.. well you know.

I love my Taylor 414-CE. I think its probably the best music related thing I've ever owned. As for better late night sound of a Taylor or any guitar - I think maybe playing guitar at night alone is a more relaxed environment than during the day such that one can more expressive with their fingers and thus get better tone. I know for me sometimes playing guitar late at night is so relaxing it puts me to sleep, guitar in hand! Best, urock

I got the 614LTD off e-bay because it was a good deal but when I got it I didn't like the sound of the maple body. It's loud and clear but not a lot of low end tone. I think the 614 is for finger picking only.

What is the ambient noise level of your playing environment during the day as opposed to the evening? How about your state of mind (bills to pay, kids to pick up, stress level, etc.)?

My Larrivee sounds great day in and day out. It may perhaps be that the tree its built of was felled at midnight and it has an affinity for that time. Or it could be that you're experiencing the lack of sleep euphoria that's so common these days. I know I do.

My 814 has a softer tone to than my GAMC. There are times I pick it up and it does sound fairly mellow, so I could see where low ambient noise situations would make it seem like it's a night owl.

There are actually some very solid reasons for this, attitude notwithstanding. Barometric pressure drops at night, which if you consider air pressure as the pressure working against the vibration of the strings, lower pressure translates into better resonance. It's also cooler at night, which with the added humidity, is good for bringing out the qualities of the wood. Then, as you've said, the quiet of night is the perfect backdrop for a Taylor.

Yeah, there's a reason why the big studios are humidity and temperature controlled...

Humidity was what I was going to suggest also. Now as for barometric pressure... Don't think I buy that one. The pressure would have to fluctuate to such an extreme before it effected the vibration of the strings that we would all be squished flat. EDIT: The one thing I could see increased pressure doing is allowing for better transmission of the sound waves, due to the increased density of the air.

My guess is, you are more relaxed and your hands are less tense. Just for fun, why not choose a song, set up everything exactly the same, and record your playing at midnight and at some other time; don't add any eq, effects, etc; save both and put them aside for a couple of weeks; then A-B listen to them?
