Have you recently uninstalled Pyro and re-installed it? If so a couple of registry keys may have been deleted that cause this. Do a system restore to a point when the drives were being recognized then re-install Pyro if you need to.

I recently went through something like this. My old cd-burner suddenly was not recognized by my computer or the Nero i was using at the time. The support did some tests and told me the drive was "toast". I installed a new cd-burner and everything was fine. I am using Pyro now beceause the old drive came bundled with Nero and it would not work with the new one,( dont that just make you @#$$%# off when they do that?) Anyway I am happy I bought Pyro. It is a better product and was about $45.00 cheaper too.

I did successfully unistall pyro but my cd-rom drive won't even run any programs, cd's or anything. I did a system restore but that process failed as well.

Go ahead and re-install Pyro. It is the uninstall that removes the registry keys that let Windows see the drives, that is why no programs will read the drives then.
    TIP
When you do un-install Pyro when it asks if you want to delete shared files always say no, if you say yes (I believe) that is what causes the problem. I doesn't hurt anything to leave those files on your pc. Another good thing to do before un-installing Pyro would be to back up the complete registry, then if you lose the drives you may get them back by importing the saved registry.

I have un-installed Pyro several times since I started saying no to deleting the shared files and I haven't lost the drives since.
