Mouse scrollwheel Zoom - A SOLUTION!

Hopefully Cakewalk will implement a sensible way to configure scrollwheel zoom natively.

In the meantime, here is a solution that should appeal to Vegas, Acid, and Tracktion users
who appreciate the power of the scrollwheel zoom.

I found this shareware utility that will map the scrollwheel to keystrokes.

I configured it to map scrollwheel-up to ctrl-rightarrow and scrollwheel-down to ctrl-leftarrow.

It works perfectly!

http://www.ardamax.com/info_mwc.html

I have no affiliation with this shareware company and can't say anything about it other than
it works perfectly for this application.

I may be closer to becoming a Sonar 4 user. I need to go dig out my old Cakewalk 3 license from
ten years ago so I can qualify for an upgrade price...

how is your setup in sonar keybindings and the little mouse wheel program?

right now i can either zoom in/out or (if i deactivate it) scroll but not at the same time scroll and zoom

what i want to have is something like:

shift + wheel --> zoom horizontal
alt + wheel --> zoom vertical
ctrl + wheel --> scroll horizontal
    wheel --> scroll vertical

    thanks, planist

    help file

    Wheel Up Keys/Wheel Up Keys

Ctrl/Alt/Shift/Win - set check boxes, which keys you need to press with primary key.

Select using combo-box the primary key for press with up/down wheel rotation.

Last parameter is used if you needs to repeat keystrokes for several times.

is this the keybinding to assign or the wanted configuration?

It works great and better yet if you press down the scrollweel button you scroll up - down.

    That's even better than Vegas....

    Thanks a lot Randygo.

    ( EDITED ... oops...was a mistake by me)
it's the key modifiers to use in combination with the letters/digits/special keys... control of the output and not the input - i wish it was more flexible and could use modifier keys in combination with the mousewheel

Hey that is really cool, I didn't know that.

In general, I have never cared about using the scrollwheel to actually scroll while editing. It is much more powerful to use it to zoom. For example, if it is set to zoom, you really don't even need horizontal scroll, because you can simply zoom-out, click on a new location in the track, and zoom in. All with the right hand and barely moving the mouse! For vertical scroll I have been more that satisfied using the scrollbar, or in Vegas, using Ctrl-scrollwheel.

When I edit my tracks, I like to work FAST. Hundred of edits an hour in some cases. With scrollwheel zoom my right-hand rarely needs to leave the track pane. My left hand can perfrom the splits, copies, moves, etc., while I fly around the clips in the tracks with ease, often zooming into a few samples to fix a micro-glitch.

I knew I was good at the search function ^^

I just thought this post should be up, so everyone knows about this - until Cakewalk works around a geniuine mouswheel zoom support ^^

Autocad added that feature a few releases back, and now I can't even use versions of the program from before the scroll-wheel zoomed...

i used to work that way in most programs but i really think sonars got one thing thats faster.

If you use the Z key, to zoom, and then use the U key to come back.
And don´t remember SHIFT-F for the whole tune.

It´s really fast and yes i work on many tracks too.

That just what i found out worked fastes in sonar. (And compared to other programs i think it´s quite fast)

I played around with the Z+ mouse zooming - that is pretty sweet.

I will get used to this quickly, I can tell. Amazing what you can learn after being told 27 times.

That and the navigator view is going make project navigations very fast and easy.

Now - if only cakewalk coud add an option to make automatic, intelligent snap-to-grid resolution changes depending on the zoom level. *That* would make editing SO much faster and easier.

Thanks for the tip olzzon! I've been using SONAR for years and this is the first time I've used the Z key and left mouse button, in that manner, for quick and precise zooming.

Now we just need the "chopper" from Acid and we will have assimilated that apps uniqueness and added it to our own.

This is a cool tool, however, not sure if there is something wrong with *my* Sonar 5 PE installation, but, the mouse wheel by default does nothing in Sonar except scroll the Nav Window. It does not scroll the track view or console windows, at all... However, using this shareware app I can do the zoom mappings...

I though that the mousewheel in Sonar 5 by default scrolled the track view / console / etc... hmmm, any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

Please would you explain how to configure the app to easily use the scrolling wheel. I'm little confused...

    Thanx
