Using "Ambience" with GPO as DXi plugin

I run Sonar2 and GPO. When using GPO as a VST I get to use the GPO "Ambience" effect which is excellent. I'd like to burn CDs and therefore need to use the GPO sounds through DXi. However, this seems to preclude using the "Ambience" plug-in effect. I've been to the website and downloaded a zipped file of Ambience ready to use and now have two questions:

1. Should I be able to either a) use the GPO Ambience funtionality or b) install the plug-in from the GPO installation disks (I've tried to install this but get an error message - something along the lines that it's not a recognised Windows VS file). Perhaps this is a questions for the Garritan site, so ...

2. I've copied and unzipped the Ambience file from the source website (which I'm willing to pay for when I know it will work) and now can't get Sonar to recognise it. Where should I put the .dll file so that Sonar can find it when I try and apply effects to tracks? I have tried the file in many folders all without success.

Any help would be most welcome.

Many thanks.

Kevin

You should be able to do all the above. But it's very odd that you're having the installation problems with that Garritan Ambience plugin -- so you probably should take it up with them. If the source version you're referring to is the Magnus version, I'd expect you would have the same problems. Magnus is the developer of that plugin and the GPO version, I believe, is simply a co-branded version. You're right, his Ambience is one of the best reverbs around. In fact, I pay attention to anything Magnus releases -- I like his sense of sound (He's also the developer of the NyquistEQ.)

Hmm, you do realize that it is a VST (not DX) plugin and therefore needs the VST Adaptor wrapper?

I have the Garritan version loaded and wrapped and it shows up and functions just fine in Sonar 4 PE as a VST plugin. No problems.

    Joe,

You kindly commented that I probably knew the difference between VST and DX plugin. I probably have to admit here that I thought I knew what I was talking about but I'm just an amateur and therefore probably don't! How do I know if I already have the VST Adaptor wrapper? If I can use Ambience with GPO does that mean I have the wrapper? Or am I talking complete duff here?

I'll go back to the Garritan site and ask the question there (I was having problems getting on earlier today). I too (with my limited ability and knowledge) and impressed with Magnus and would really prefer to use his reverb rather than go elsewhere.

Thanks again for your response and help.

    Kind regards.

    Kevin

Wrapping was the problem. Thanks for pointing me in that direction. The Magnus site just said copy the .dll file across and in my naivety I left it at that - my fault and my lack of experience. Bought the DirectiXer wrapper and that works a treat.

    Thanks again guys.
