Free instruments

hi.. I'm using SHS4... mostly audio work.. but starting to learn about midi and soft synths...

Anyone know where I can DL some free instruments... I've already dl'd triangle II and crystal... these seem great for some weird sounds... but where can i get a syth that does like violin, flute or cello? or point me in the direction of some demos for them?

SFZ. SOUNDFONT PLAYER from rgcaudio. Good and free just like the triangle you will also need to download soundfonts of the instruments you want, or buy some collections. SonicImplants sells downloadable soundfonts. You then load these into the sfz player and sequence your instrument. Free soundfonts are out there. A big list is at the rgcaudio forum kvr. the sticky is close to top.

Try Ugo - do a search at Harmony Central or kvr. He has some tasty free synths at his sight. I've just upgraded my computer and DSL and don't have the links (yet!) on my old music/new home computer.

There was also a free minimoog/arp VST posted on the SONAR site a while back - it might have been repeated on the P5 forum.

I also dl'd 4frontbass... put it in the vst folder... but I can't find it when I open sonar..

Load it into sfz… Have you actually got the sfz player yet? Go here for that and install it before going any further with this SoundFont business.

Anywhere, I should think. As long as you can locate it later when you go to open it from sfz. Either that or drop-and-drop it into the sfz GUI.

Also, sfz has a standalone mini-host. Look for sfz.exe in your VST plugins folder. You may want to test new SF2s from there as it's less complicated than setting up sfz in your main host just to test a sound font.

Yes. You should see (and need to have for the standalone to work) sfz.exe and sfz.dll in the same directory. Where do you keep your VST plugins? Look there…
