Audio clips in a Post Production Session
Hi,
I was working on a sound design /music mix for an imported video today and encountered a serious problem. I opened up an OMF session and all the audio dropped into the designated tracks and onto the correct position of the timeline to sync correctly with the video which I also imported.
I then composed a music sequence using only the midi functions in Sonar. I changed the tempo of the session from 100 bpm to 111bpm so that the music would finish in the correct spot of the video.
When I did this the audio clips changed position relative to absolute time and no longer synced up with the video. These clips were dialogue tracks so it was important that they stay in the right spot.
I managed to solve my problem by using the "bounce to clips" function on each individual track/clip in the session, and dragged their start points to zero on the timeline. This kept the audio in sync with the video regardless of the sequencer tempo.
I tried to find a locking function to lock the audio clips to absolute time so that they would not move around but couldn't see anything in the manual. Does a function like this exist?
I do a lot of post work and this is the first time I have come across this.
I did find a "snap to" option that allows users to nominate absolute time, I tried that and the audio still moved.
Bouncing all the audio in a session seems like a long way of managing audio that needs to stay synced to video. Is there another way??
Cheers,
Bart
