Motherboards with onboard firewire

I'm considering buying a new motherboard. The last time I did this, I was fortunate enough to get one that had an on-board firewire connector with a Texas-Instruments chipset. This was pure luck as it is virtually impossible to get the FW chipset details in advance of buying the board.

Hence, this time around, I thought I would ask the forum's experience for those who actually own Motherboards with onboard TI-based FireWire.

Hence, if you have such a motherboard, could you please post it's make and model, plus any good/bad points.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Jamjar,
Browse a site like Newegg. They usually have detailed specs and reviews from people that are using a given board.
Look for a board with decent heatsinks and detailing as well. If it looks well made, it probably is.
    Good luck.

Guys who edit video on NLE systems have screamed so hard and so long about non-compliant Texas Instruments FireWire ports that virtually every MOBO made today has TI FW. It would be considerably harder to find a MOBO that didn't at this point. But if you're in doubt, try visiting some bulletin boards for filmmakers and search them about MOBO's and FireWire. Or maybe join one of their forums just long enough to query them about the MOBO's they're using.

I have had no problems with my set up. The CPU runs at max. 46 degrees Celcius (114 degrees Fahrenheit) in my Antec Sonata Piano, which is really good since my ex-CPU (AMD Athlon 2200+) often beeped at me with overheating if I ran demanding programs.

The memory has been good, but knowing what I know now (some people have had problems with the OCZ DDR2 800MHz Platinum series memory on the P5B), I'd suggest to stick to the qualified-by-ASUS list and buy Kingston sticks or something to be sure. Yet no matter what you get, don't forget to flash the BIOS when you boot for the first time.

The Sonar 3 Test runs at 28% with my Presonus Inspire set at 4 ms (which equals 176 samples) with just a little tweaking (e.g. set priority to background services, not programs, etc, but no overclocking whatsoever). And I have my internet and the notoriously slow F-Secure anti-virus program running there in the background.

    Best,
    Jyri

My gear: ASUS P5B DeLuxe WiFi (MoBo), INTEL CORE 2 E6400 2.13GHZ (CPU), 2 gigas of OCZ DDR2 800MHz Platinum XTC, Presonus Inspire (SndCard), ASUSTEK X1300 PRO PCI-E 256MB SILENT (GrCard), Maxtor DiamondMax10 SATA 250 GB for the system, Maxtor DiamondMax10 PATA 250 GB for the audio, Sonar 5.2 Producer Edition

Also, you can post on the user forums of the mobos that you are considering.
