I would rent a real time analyzer/white noise generator and get a real peak at whats going on.

I was think of micing my monitors and using a white noise generator and seeing what Voxengo Span displayed.
But even then I would have to know what the mic and preamp was doing to the signal.

I spent a while compares my AKG 240s and the Truths, but that would be apples and oranges anyway.
A friend has a set of Mackies, maybe I should barrow them and A/B them.

As to rent an analyzer, that would be a 2 hour one way trip, if one of the music store have one.

Hey, everyone - I was just at my local GC and they had a FLOOR STACK, probably 50+ sealed boxes of KRK RP-5's on sale.

For $149!!!!!

I didn't get them. I try not to buy things on impulse - I try to wait at least....15 minutes or so and I was on the way to pick up my kid for dentist appt, so I decided not to walk out of the store with them....

I'm just wondering how long it will be before I go back.....

At that price, I'd be pushing my budget beyond what I should, but I could get the monitors AND the new mics I need for my next recording project!!!

For just a bit more, the KRK V4's are a much better sounding box to my ears... The local GC told me I can be out the door for about $440 for the pair.

Just a thought...

Hey Beagle,

I'm assuming you're quoting $149 per speaker. If it's $149 for the pair...go back tonight!

yes, per speaker! If they had been per pair, I wouldn't have left the store without them! (and probably would have bought a couple more to sell on ebay!)

I'm still wondering if I can get away with that much, tho! My wife might kill me.

If I was going to buy KRK monitors, I'd definately go with the V series.
